About me

Hello and welcome,

I realise that the decision to seek counselling may have been challenging and the need to choose the 'right' counsellor, significant.  Perhaps you’re struggling - feeling alone and isolated.  Maybe you have anxiety, are feeling overwhelmed, depressed or burnt out.  It could be that what you’re experiencing isn’t any of these - maybe you don't feel yourself and you don’t know why.  If you’re experiencing any of these feelings, sharing your burden through counselling can help.  Through therapy we can work together to enable you to explore and, if necessary, challenge your old ways of thinking and behaving in a safe environment with the aim of discovering a less burdened, more resilient version of yourself.

I’m a qualified and experienced integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. Essentially, this means  that I have trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches that I can adapt to meet your specific, individual needs.  My method is informed by the humanistic and psychodynamic traditions, as well as body psychotherapy and CBT techniques.

I can work on either a short term or a long term basis, as the need requires.  Central to my practice is the desire to establish an environment of mutual transparency and acceptance, where warmth, empathy, humour and gentle challenge create a space to explore compassionately and without judgement whatever has brought you to therapy. If this sounds like the approach for you, I look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have the following qualifications:

  • MA Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling (The Minster Centre, London);
  • Post-graduate Diploma Integrative Counselling (The Minster Centre, London);
  • University Diploma Psychodynamic Counselling (University of Hertfordshire);
  • LPC and PG Dip. in Law (The College of Law, London); and
  • BA Hons in Modern European Studies (UCL).

In addition, I attend a diverse range of CPD courses on an ongoing basis to support my learning.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

My work in the mental health field includes working with adults at the Priory Group Hospitals in a secure, acute mental health ward, at MIND in Mid Herts, at Alternatives (a pregnancy related trauma charity) and with the NHS at the Peace Hospice, Watford.  I have also worked with young adults (15 years plus) in the NHS within the Child and Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

I was born, brought up and educated in the UK.  I have also studied and lived in France and Italy and speak Italian fluently.  The dual Anglo/Italian nature of my upbringing has engendered an interest in how our cultural heritage affects us including notions of integration and multi-culturality.  I am a parent and have an intimate awareness of the impact (both joyous and challenging) that having children makes.  This understanding is brought into my practice when working with themes such as miscarriage, infertility, transitioning to parenthood, changes in identity, pre and post-natal depression and returning to work after having children - from both partners' perspectives.  I have also worked with clients experiencing, amongst other things, childhood abuse,  bereavement, grief and loss, depression and anxiety, the effects of dyslexia and the menopause, low self-esteem, relationship issues, self-harm and suicide.  Additionally, I work extensively with people in their middle age struggling in their significant relationship, caring for aging parents and confronted with what their future may hold.

Prior to working in the mental health field, I was an employment lawyer in the City.  As a result of this experience, I have a direct understanding of the culture of the City and similarly highly pressurised working environments.

I am a registered member the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work in accordance with their Codes of Practice.
