About us

Manchester Gestalt Centre has been in existence for over 20 years. It is one of the main centres in the UK providing gestalt therapy and training. There are 5 therapists working at the centre who are all experienced and qualified psychotherapists. They are: Joy Appleby, Alessandra Meriz, Peter Philippson, Danny Porter  and Shirley Summers.

Gestalt  therapy is creative and experimental and challenges and supports the person to look at and expand their potential through becoming more aware of how they get or don’t get, their needs met in their lives. Gestalt has an experiential approach to counselling and psychotherapy which aims to help the individual discover their own ways to manage difficulties and live more effectively. Gestalt has many different influences and strands and works with the body as well as with the mind.  It is an approach to therapy which looks at how a person can function more effective in the present moment in order to get their individual needs met.  Gestalt therapy emphasises developing a better way of relating to ourselves, others and the wider environment and is a therapy which explores many life issues including: relationship problems, stress, anger, anxiety, depression, sexuality, work issues, confidence, low self esteem and bereavement.

Training, qualifications & experience

All the psychotherapists are registered through the UKCP which means they have a professional post graduate qualification in gestalt psychotherapy. They are also very experienced practitioners who have all individually been working in the field for more than 20 years each.
