About me

I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor and Registered Member of my professional body; The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I'm well trained & very experienced in working with clients as I have worked therapeutically for 20 years with clients of all ages at individual, couple and family level and been counselling since 2020 in Mid Ulster and the NHS and I am now counselling in my Private Practice since July 2022.

Client group I offer counselling to:  I offer counselling in the room, online and over the telephone to individual children from age 8 years, teenagers, adults & elders and couples. I provide counselling for the issues named below. My special areas of interest are counselling clients affected by bereavement, mood issues (anxiety & depression), pregnancy related issues & intergenerational and other trauma. Whilst counselling you, I will do so at your pace, safely, professionally, respectfully, with compassion, empathy & without judgement.

The counselling approach used:  I will provide you with an Integrative style of counselling by incorporating the main counselling approaches that I have been trained in and which are best tailored to meet your needs. These are the Person-centred approach (Humanism), Psychoanalysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and other approaches and interventions I am trained in. If you would like to read more details on these approaches you are most welcome to visit my website which has a blog on it called What is Counselling & Online & Telephone Counselling?

What happens in the first counselling appointment?  Once you contact me to enquire about counselling I will telephone you as soon as possible to arrange a free 15-20 minutes phone call for us both to have a conversation to obtain your details, discuss the counselling process and to ensure I am the right counsellor for you and that you are comfortable and feel ready to attend me. When we begin your counselling, we will gently and sensitively explore what has brought you to counselling and begin working on that at your pace. We can also agree on the day, time and frequency of your appointments.

What you can get from counselling: It can be hard to start counselling but you could gain so much from it including gaining further insight, strategies for helping you, ways of looking after yourself when you are going through challenging times, improving your issues, your mood and even recovery.  With this in mind please don't hesitate to give me a call or email me.

Private Practice Information: My ground floor Private Practice "Mastering Connections Counselling and Consultation Service” is central based in Northern Ireland and is situated between Armagh & Dungannon. It is 10 mins from two main road networks; the M1/A29 & 20mins from the A4 bypass. The room is  spacious with a calm scenic view.  Free and disabled parking is also available onsite. The Counselling Practice is discreetly placed with clients entering and leaving one at a time.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
