About me

I am a  qualified Integrative Embodied Counsellor and Registered Member of the professional body The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society . I am very experienced as I have worked  with clients of all ages at individual and family level in my previous healthcare career. I have been counselling clients who reside across Northern Ireland  since 2020. I offer counselling in my Private Practice.

Client group I offer counselling to:  I offer counselling & psychotherapy to residents of  Northern Ireland either in my counselling  room, online or over the telephone. I counsel children from age 8 years, teenagers, adults & elders. I provide therapy for the issues named below. My special areas of interest are counselling clients affected by intergenerational/childhood and other types of trauma, anxiety, bereavement, depression including mild self harm, suicidal thoughts, low self worth, mild-moderate pregnancy related issues including pregnancy loss and birth trauma. I also provide counselling for any covid 19 related issues that are still impacting you, or if you or your relative have had any diagnosis or disability which is impacting upon you emotionally.  Whilst counselling you, I will do so at your pace, safely, professionally, respectfully, with compassion, empathy & without judgement.

The counselling approach used:  I will provide you with an Integrative style of counselling by incorporating the main counselling approaches that I have been trained in and which are best tailored to meet your needs. These include  the Person-centred approach (Humanism), Psychoanalysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis, Family Systems, Embodiment, and other approaches and interventions I am trained in.

What happens in the first counselling appointment?  Once you contact me to enquire about counselling I will telephone you as soon as possible to arrange a mutually convenient time to have a free 20 minutes phone call for us both to have a conversation to discuss the counselling process and to ensure I am the right counsellor for you and that you are comfortable and feel ready to attend me. If you agree to attend me then we can agree on the day, time and frequency of your appointments. We will gently and sensitively explore together what has brought you to counselling and begin working on how to address this at your pace.

What you can get from counselling: It can be hard to start counselling but you could gain so much from it including being listened to, being validated, gaining further insight into your experiences, strategies for helping you, ways of looking after yourself when you are going through challenging times, improving your circumstances, your mood and moving to recovery.

Private Practice Information: My ground floor Private Practice "Mastering Connections Counselling and Consultation Service” is central based in Northern Ireland and is situated between Armagh & Dungannon. It is 10 mins from two main road networks; the M1/A29 & 20mins from the A4 bypass. The room is  spacious with a lovely calm scenic view.  Free and disabled parking is also available onsite. The Counselling Practice is discreetly placed with clients entering and leaving one at a time, which ensures your privacy & confidentiality. Clients travel from all over Northern Ireland to my base.

It is a privilege for me to meet clients, to listen to what is going on for them, to validate them, and provide them with counselling that can help make improvements for them in so many areas of their lives. To see a client who has been distressed move to a more peaceful state during their counselling  makes this role so worthwhile.
