About me

I offer a range of therapeutic techniques to provide a unique and tailored approach. Creating a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore your experiences and feelings with the aim of increased self-awareness and self-compassion and coming back into a feeling of wholeness. Working collaboratively we can focus the sessions to best facilitate your own process.

I hold the sessions with a trauma-informed approach. They are carefully paced and there is no need to 'reveal all' or feel that you will be left feeling empty, unsupported or raw after the session.  It is a brave step to reach out for any type of therapy and I like to work with empathy and humour where appropriate, counselling is there for the whole complexities of life, from the deepest challenges to the smallest wins.

I facilitate face-to-face sessions in a calm and spacious therapy room in Totnes and I also offer the option to meet outside and walk and talk or just be in nature. Some clients prefer to take the sessions online or on the telephone from the comfort of their own home or other private space and a hybrid of these is also available to suit your needs.

"Although humans rarely die from trauma, if we do not resolve it, our lives can be severely diminished by its effects. Some people have even described this situation as a “living death" - Peter A. Levine, Healing Trauma

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling (MNCPS Accred) this includes Transpersonal, Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as well as research into bereavement, mindfulness and visualisation.

With recent experience with neurodiversity and ADHD, I also work with being in relationships with neurotypical or neurodiverse family members and these particular relationship dynamics.

Many years of experience with chronic health conditions have provided much insight into healthcare management both within the NHS and complementary and holistic approaches. We can work together with the awareness of the mental toll a physical condition can take, with the ongoing and variable symptoms and challenges. We can also explore the spiritual and emotional process of coming to terms with surgeries, physical pain, and adaptions, and the energy required to manage one's own healthcare and day-to-day activities and life challenges.

My background is in bodywork (Sports massage therapy, Thai Yoga Massage, and Remedial Massage techniques), studying yoga in India, and teaching teen yoga in education and mental health settings. My studies in yoga included meditation and breathing techniques which I offer when appropriate within counselling sessions. I have an ongoing interest and focus on how trauma is stored in the body and consequently affects our health and relationship to life, therefore I undertook CPD in Somatic Experiencing - a pioneering body oriented approach to relieving the physical, psychological, emotional and physiological effects of acute and chronic stress and PTSD.

Further studies include the Living Well Dying Well Training in the person-centred approach to death and dying including:

  • Understanding grief
  • Emotional and spiritual responses to death
  • Physical changes at the end of life
  • Increasing comfort, integrative health and
  • Supportive therapies
  • Rituals and practices within cultural and faith groups
  • Socio-legal requirements
  • Spiritual and self-care practices
  • Funeral directors’ practices
