Your initial telephone assessment is offered free to ensure you feel comfortable with me and the therapy I can offer best fits your needs. My approach is warm, caring and positive. I will always strive to ensure your needs are met and your time is used most efficiently.
My approach has always ensured each client I've treated has completed treatment feeling positive and empowered to be their own Therapist in the future. I really enjoy being a Therapist and find it extremely rewarding. I hope I can meet your needs.
Following on from our initial introductory appointment and if you wish to proceed with therapy I will ensure you receive a full assessment of your individual needs. Our shared formulation will guide your treatment and help you to understand your difficulties in a meaningful and constructive way. Although it may seem a big step to take, an initial telephone conversation could be your first move towards an improved quality of life.
Training, qualifications & experience
My background is working for the NHS in Adults Mental Health Services and my Core Profession is as a Senior Social Worker. I completed a Post Graduate Certificate with Distinction in Approved Social Work in 2006 and worked as an Approved Social Worker/Care Co Ordinator in the community.
In 2009 my interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) began and I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in CBT and Recovery in Psychosis and Complex Mental Health. I specialised in treating adults experiencing their first episode of Psychosis within a Community Mental Health Team.
In 2011 I gained a Post Graduate Diploma in CBT for Anxiety and Depression and worked as a High Intensity Therapist working in Primary Care, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) within GP surgeries across Teesside. I successfully treated a wide number of different anxiety disorders, depression and trauma disorders in the community.
I have also trained and qualified as a CBT Supervisor and have supervised Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, Psychological Therapists and GP Registrars within a busy secondary care Mental Health Team for the NHS.
CBT focuses on helping you to change unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving. It is widely recognised as the Gold Standard for depression and anxiety disorders. I am fully accredited with the BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies) the Lead Organisation for CBT in the UK and Ireland.
I am also trained in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) a type of cognitive behavioural therapy. If you struggle with difficulty in managing your emotions, DBT can help you overcome this by helping you understand and accept your difficult feelings; learn skills to manage them and make positive changes in life. I'm experienced in delivering 1-1 and group DBT therapy.
I am more recently trained by the leading EMDR Academy in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) a Psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that is the result of trauma.
EMDR is also effective in treating other mood and anxiety disorders, including depression, phobias and panic disorder. EMDR to date has proved extremely effective for those whom I have had the opportunity to treat.
My current part time NHS post is in a secondary care community team as a Psychotherapist providing a wide range of therapies to those suffering from complex and chronic mental health conditions.
Initial session is free:
You can choose a specific therapy or take an integrative approach which is using elements of different approaches. This is something we can work out together during the free initial assessment. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and I trust that you will find me warm and approachable.
I am very flexible in my approach to therapy and will suggest the right treatment and therapy that I feel will work for you. Therapy works best using a partnership approach which equips you with skills to help you overcome your difficulties and increase your own resources to avoid relapse in the future.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to find the most effective treatment to meet your needs.
