Training, qualifications & experience

Background

My background is working for the NHS in Adults Mental Health Services. I completed a Post Graduate Certificate with Distinction in Approved Social Work in 2006 and worked as an Approved Social Worker/Care Co Ordinator within the community.

Observing colleagues I soon began to see for myself the positive impact psychological therapies could bring to people's lives and felt inspired and determined to train in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

I continue to feel passionate about the ability for CBT to change lives. I find it so rewarding when with my support and guidance clients can find their own solutions and feel empowered to make the changes needed to improve their mental health and often their close relationships. I've always found my work so fascinating and feel in a privileged position to have a job I love.

I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in CBT and Recovery in Psychosis and Complex Mental Health then specialised in treating adults experiencing their first episode of Psychosis within a Community Mental Health Team.

In 2011 I gained a Post Graduate Diploma in CBT for Anxiety and Depression and worked as a High Intensity Therapist working in Primary Care, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) within GP surgeries across Teesside. I gained a  vast amount of experience treating people suffering with anxiety, depression and trauma in the community.

I also trained and qualified as a CBT Supervisor and have supervised Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, Psychological Therapists and GP Registrars within a busy NHS secondary care Mental Health Team.

CBT focuses on helping you to change unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving - widely recognised as the Gold Standard for treating depression and anxiety disorders. I can say with confidence it is an extremely effective therapy alongside a positive therapeutic relationship, one based on warmth, openness and trust.

BABCP Accreditation

I am fully accredited with the BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies) the Lead Organisation for CBT in the UK and Ireland.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy

I am Post graduate level trained in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) a type of cognitive behavioural therapy. If you struggle with difficulties managing your emotions then DBT can help you overcome this by helping you understand and accept your difficult feelings; learn skills to manage them and make positive changes in life. I'm experienced in delivering 1-1 and group DBT therapy.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

I am trained by the leading EMDR Europe Academy in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). A Psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that is the result of trauma.

EMDR is also effective in treating other mood and anxiety disorders, including depression, phobias, panic disorder. and addictions. EMDR has proved extremely effective and often life changing for those whom I have had the opportunity to treat. It's a popular choice as is very fast and effective.
