About me

Hi, I'm Louise and I offer face to face counselling in Shrewsbury for adults and young people over 14.

I'm a qualified person-centred counsellor which means I aim to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for you to talk about and explore whatever has brought you to counselling, at your own pace. With this approach, I don't routinely offer strategies  but as  I have completed further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Trauma Informed Practise, I may suggest some strategies or techniques from this training, if you feel this might be helpful.

I have a background in supporting people in various areas including mental health and housing support. It was working directly with people in these roles, hearing people's stories and difficulties,  that led me to become interested in counselling, and train as a counsellor. I've been consistently in practise since qualifying in 2020 and have counselled adults and young people for two local agencies in Shropshire, with one agency having a particular focus on bereavement counselling. I have also  worked as a counsellor at a local college. I presently  work for a national children's charity supporting children and young people with their emotional well being, so hold a current DBS certificate.

Deciding to start counselling can be quite daunting and finding a person you feel comfortable with is really important. I offer a free telephone consultation so we can have a chat and you can see if you feel I'm the right counsellor for you. I also welcome any email enquiries. Issues I may be able to help with include anxiety, low mood, bereavement and loss, relationship and work issues, low self esteem.

The comfortable rooms I offer counselling from are in Shrewsbury town centre, so there is parking nearby and also near the bus station. I can also offer telephone or online counselling if preferred and have experience and training in this area.

Counselling is £40 per 50 minute session, with a reduced rate of £30 for student counsellors in training. If however, you are struggling financially but feel counselling would be beneficial, please contact me to discuss.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
