About me
Hi, I'm Louise and I offer face to face and online counselling in Shrewsbury for adults and young people over 16.
I qualified in 2020 as a person-centred counsellor which means I aim to provide a comfortable, non-judgemental space which feels safe for you to talk about and explore whatever has brought you to counselling, at your own pace. With this approach, I don't routinely offer strategies but as I have completed further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Trauma Informed Practice, I may suggest some strategies or techniques from this training, if you feel this might be helpful.
I have a background before training as a counsellor of supporting people in various areas including mental health support in the community, supporting young people and their parents with their emotional wellbeing at a local drop in and also working for a charity offering housing support to vulnerable people. It was working directly with people in these roles, listening to people's experiences and building working relationships, that led me to become interested in counselling, and train as a counsellor. I've been consistently in practice since qualifying and have counselled adults and young people for two local agencies in Shropshire, with one agency having a particular focus on bereavement counselling. Here, I undertook additional training in this area and have attended further training since then. I have also worked as a counsellor at a local college and for a wellbeing drop in service for young people and their families. I have an up to date DBS certificate.
Deciding to start counselling can be quite daunting and finding a person you feel comfortable with is really important. I offer a free telephone consultation so we can have a chat and you can see if you feel I'm the right counsellor for you. I also welcome any email enquiries if you have any questions at all. Issues I may be able to help with include feelings of anxiety and overwhelm, low mood, bereavement and loss, relationship and work issues, low self esteem and I also have experience of working with neurodivergence. I welcome any enquiries from parent carers, as I have a personal interest in this area as well as experience from past job roles.
The comfortable rooms I offer face to face counselling from are in Shrewsbury town centre, so there is parking nearby and is near the bus station. I can also offer telephone or online counselling if this is preferred and I have experience and training in this area.
Counselling is £45 per 50 minute session, with a reduced rate of £35 for student counsellors in training. If however, you are struggling financially but feel counselling would be beneficial, please contact me to discuss a reduced fee.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
