About me

Hello, I'm Lisa - thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. I'm based in Whitchurch (North Shropshire) in close proximity to Wrexham, Chester and Shrewsbury. I have been practicing since 2020 (Registered BACP member) and can offer you a safe place to explore your experience and untangle those thoughts and feelings to build resilience in a compassionate space.

Studies show that it’s the relationship between you and your therapist that really influences whether counselling will work for you, and if you’ll obtain the results you want. I provide a professional therapeutic service that allows you to explore positive solutions at your own pace in a non-judgmental and confidential environment.

How can therapy help:

Life is problematic and sometimes our normal coping strategies don’t work, this can make life hard and the world overwhelming. You may be experiencing low mood, anxiety, loneliness, sleepless nights and feel unable to focus and your tolerance levels are low. This will be individual to you, but for many people, it’s because they have experienced a bereavement, or a relationship breakdown, perhaps adverse childhood experience (ACE) or a change in circumstances. Counselling can help us make sense of what has happened and give us the space to learn how to come to terms and cope with our life experiences - encouraging empowerment, self-development, and self-motivation.

I believe that the individual holds the key to their own lives, and counselling assists them to find ways to manage and grow as a person.

If you do decide you want to take the next step, you’ll get a safe space to tell your story, your way, and together we’ll work out what you need right now, where you want to be and how you can get there. We can agree to meet for a small number of focused sessions to get you through the immediate crisis, or you may feel you need longer, to help you make more significant life changes. Or somewhere in between - you decide! We’ll keep reviewing how it’s going until you feel ready to move on.

What you can expect:

When you first make contact either via email or by phone, we will arrange to have a free 20-minute introductory consultation on the phone to discuss how we can work together, I can answer any questions you may have regarding the sessions and counselling.

All subsequent sessions last no longer that 50 minutes.

Where and how?

I am based in the Brownlow Community Centre in Whitchurch, Shropshire. The venue is fully accessible with parking and is situated within the town giving ease of access from all major roads.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) with nearly 30 years of experience in the helping professions.

The BACP is the UK’s leading professional body for the education, training and accreditation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I am required to demonstrate that I can work effectively and must continue my professional development as a therapist.

I initially trained in Person-Centred Counselling, but I class myself as an Integrated Counsellor. For you, this means I may use Cognitive Behaviour Techniques (CBT) or Transactional Analysis to help the therapeutic process and make the experience individual to your needs.

I am also licensed to deliver the ‘Rewind Technique’ for individuals who are experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

My working background is in learning disabilities, mental health, behaviour change, community development, workplace support, education and I have volunteered at U+I Counselling in Oswestry for the last 3 years as a therapist.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
