I am a Southampton based BACP registered and insured integrative counsellor offering face-to-face and online sessions to explore whatever is troubling you.
How I work
As an integrative counsellor, I draw on multiple therapeutic theories to tailor my approach to each person which fits with my belief that everyone is an individual with their own experience of life.
My approach is based on authenticity and insight; through a relationship where we can both be honest, genuine and accepting, we can discover things about you and your experience and then use this knowledge to bring lasting change.
It is my belief that the therapeutic relationship itself is the vehicle for change so I work to provide a space that is empathic, supportive, confidential, non-judgemental and safe for us to explore the themes and experiences that you want to.
While whatever is troubling you may be in the present or future, it can be helpful to consider the past and discover the source of any difficulties you are experiencing. I subscribe to the idea that we often unconsciously repeat patterns in relationships that reflect those from our younger years. Once we have an understanding of these patterns we are then able to maintain an awareness of them and choose whether to repeat them or do things differently thus giving you a greater sense of control over your life.

FREE Initial Consultation
It is important to find the right therapist for you and I would encourage you to shop around. I offer a free 30 minute telephone initial consultation which is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you have about counselling and see if you would like to work with me.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have completed a 2 year BACP accredited Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling with Iron Mill College, Poole. Integrative means that I am trained to draw on multiple theoretical approaches and blend them to tailor the way I work to each client. I draw in the main from psychodynamic and person-centred theory.
I have over two years’ experience counselling in a local hospice and have spent time volunteering for a local community counselling organisation. Both settings have provided me with experience working with issues of loss, bereavement, identity loss (particularly with former carers), relationships, trauma, historical physical and sexual abuse, diversity & culturalism, anxiety and depression.
I have eleven years of experience supporting commercial pilots at an ATO at various stages of their career. I therefore understand the pressures pilots face of stress, finance & performance as well as the stigma around mental health in the industry. I can draw on this experience when offering counselling for pilots.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Ethics & Standards
As a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) adhering to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, you can trust that I am working to high professional and ethical standards and am dedicated to providing a good service.
Part of this dedication is to my continuous professional development which I maintain by attending training courses and keeping up with developments in the counselling and psychotherapy field. In addition to this I attend regular clinical supervision where I discuss my caseload, while maintaining confidentiality, with a more experienced practitioner.
