About me

Hello, my name is Leonie, and I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor. I offer a warm, empathetic space for clients to process what is happening and has happened in their lives. I encourage clients to speak to me as openly as possible – I am non-judgemental and am always keen to hear exactly what clients hope for in therapy.

I help people with many different struggles. Some people are struggling with depression and /or anxiety, some have had traumatic experiences, a bereavement, or are struggling in their relationships. Others may not identify with having mental health struggles at all but may feel a bit ‘stuck’, perhaps unhappy at work or unsure about the direction of their life. I suppose the common thread between all the people I work with is that each person is hoping for some kind of change.

I work from a relational 'Gestalt' perspective. Gestalt does not preach an ultimate “way to be healthy”, rather, seeing ‘dysfunctional’ elements of our patterns in life as ‘creative adjustments’ that have developed for a good reason. Through building a sense of curiosity and awareness of our unique ways of being in the world / being in relationships with others, we can broaden our choices around these ways of being. Then we can begin to subtly shift and change the patterns that are no longer working for us.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor with four years’ clinical experience. I am just about to complete my 5-year MSc training as a Gestalt Psychotherapist, at The Metanoia Institute. I work with adults (18+). Before becoming a therapist, I spent 18 years working as a professional musician and teacher. During my training, I have also worked as an Assistant Psychologist at a Priory Group psychiatric hospital. I commonly work with clients with a wide range of difficulties, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, bereavement, transgenerational problems and relationship problems. I have a special interest in neurodiversity.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
