About me

At times life can be tough to deal with on our own. You may be suffering a loss, finding a relationship difficult, experiencing anxiety or feeling sad, isolated and alone. Whatever your reasons for seeking support at this time, I believe counselling can help you find a way through the difficulties you face to discover more freeing and fulfilling ways of living.

That first step to finding a counsellor can be a challenging one but it is a step that could make a positive and lasting difference to your life. The most important thing is finding a counsellor who is right for you, who you can trust and relate to easily and who you have confidence will be able to help you.

I am a professionally qualified, experienced Integrative counsellor with a solid background of life experience and human relating. I understand about what we sometimes have to face in life and how that can affect us. I care about people, enjoy helping people and consider it a privilege and a responsibility being alongside my clients as they share with me their inner world. I offer a warm, non-judgemental counselling space where you will be listened to thoughtfully and sensitively, so that you feel heard and safe to explore your personal concerns and feelings within this confidential setting.

How Counselling Can Help

My integrative approach enables me to support and value you as an individual in a way that puts you and your needs at the centre. You may want to work through a specific problem or crisis, or need support to resolve painful feelings, anxiety or inner conflict. Counselling will help you make sense of what is happening in your life, ease emotional distress, reduce anxiety and help shift 'stuck' feelings and situations. It will help you understand yourself better and may also help you understand how aspects from your past are influencing your present. It will help you get through the tough time and find effective ways of coping and moving forward.

I have worked successfully with adults and young people across a broad range of client issues including low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, social anxiety and various types of loss, relationship difficulties and life transitions. I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, offering short or longer term therapeutic counselling for individuals.

Training, qualifications & experience

I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds within my private counselling practice. I have specialised experience working with young people as a Visiting Counsellor at The Arts University Bournemouth where for many years I supported students through concerns such as loneliness, bullying, exam pressure, low self-esteem, loss of relationship, bereavement, gender dysphoria, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, self-harm and disordered eating. I have also been a Mentor at a local school working 1-to-1 helping students grow and develop their potential. During my training I was a counsellor for Cruse Dorset, supporting people of all ages who had been bereaved and now continue this work in my private practice.

I am committed to my ongoing professional development and undertake regular psychotherapy and counselling CPD throughout the year to expand and update my knowledge and best practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

My fee is £45 for a session lasting an hour. Our initial meeting would be an opportunity to explore what brings you to counselling at this particular time in your life and to see if counselling with me would be helpful to you. I normally see clients on a regular weekly basis, valuing counselling as a process where one session builds on another. I also offer flexible appointments where regular weekly sessions would not be practical.

Further information

I work with adults and young people from 18 years of age and hold full professional indemnity insurance.

My counselling work is supervised on a monthly basis, in strict confidentiality, which is a requirement of the BACP and ensures that I work in a safe, appropriate and ethical manner.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, I hope it gives you an idea of the sort of counsellor and person I am, and I look forward to hearing from you.
