About me

My name’s Kate (she/her) and I am a fully qualified, BACP registered, integrative counsellor and psychotherapist based in the seaside town of Exmouth, East Devon.

Whatever brings you to seek support will be unique to you. Perhaps you have a sense that life just isn't as you would like it to be, and want to make changes? Or you are unsure of what, or how, exactly, you are feeling at the moment? Are you feeing anxious, or stuck in unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving? Or you are struggling within your relationships at home, at work, or socially? It may be that you are living with loss/bereavement, or supporting a loved one with their own mental/physical health? Or would you like help navigating the challenges that everyday life is bringing?

My best hopes are for you to feel safe and comfortable in the accepting and confidential space I can hold for you. I aim to listen closely and be curious about whatever you bring to session.   You are the expert in you - and while there may be knowledge and understanding that I can bring to support you - any answers, ultimately, lie within you. How our work together looks, will very much depend on you, your preferred ways of working and what you would like the outcomes from therapy to be.

Neurodivergence, social anxiety and low self-esteem are a professional and personal interest of mine. I have extensive experience supporting families with SEND and EHCPs. I am a fully inclusive and wholeheartedly welcome anyone who may have experienced feeling marginalised in society.

Whatever your thoughts, I warmly invite you to contact me to arrange a free, no-obligation, 20 minute meeting or call, to see if you would like to make an initial assessment session.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I work with most areas which arise within the field of counselling and warmly invite you to make contact and discuss any specifics. I will always signpost a service or recommend a colleague if I feel you might benefit from more specialist support than I can provide.

Further information

My therapy room is based in central Exmouth, within easy walking distance of both the train station and bus routes. There is usually ample on-street parking and the option of pay and display carparks nearby, if preferred.

I have sole use of my therapy room: it is welcoming and private for confidential talking and has a large table for creative work whenever needed.

The location of my room means we can make use of the beautiful Exmouth seafront and beach for walking and talking, if that is your preference. I also offer online sessions for those who may prefer this method of working together.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

There are stairs to access my room and I have the option to use an alternative room, via a gentle, wheelchair friendly slope. Please let me know if you would like this option when you first make contact.
