About me

I am a psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work with adults, young people and older adults on an open-ended basis.

I have particular experience in working with:

Anxiety,
Depression,
Relationships,
Low self-esteem,
Bereavement and loss,
Emotional neglect,
Sexual abuse,
Sexual identity,
Coping with stressful work environments,
Family breakdowns (child’s and adult’s perspective),
Parenting issues,
Identity issues,
Self-harm and self-sabotaging behaviours.

I will provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space within which to explore whatever is troubling you. People attend counselling for many varied reasons with everyone’s story being unique. Maybe you’re feeling unheard and powerless in your relationships, maybe you’re feeling lost or very low or constantly angry. Maybe you’re feeling out of touch with your feelings altogether. Counselling can give you the chance to stop and focus on you and your feelings: to process and understand what you are experiencing.

Painful feelings, troubled relationships and repeated patterns of behaviour will often in some way have their roots in past experiences.  It can be difficult, however, to see the connections and to understand how our past experiences are impacting upon our lives today.  It’s not always easy to see how we relate to ourselves and to others and to see how we get in the way of ourselves.  Together, and at your pace, we can explore underlying anxieties, beliefs and thought processes and hidden parts of your “self” with the aim of moving towards greater self-awareness, self-acceptance and a stronger feeling of ownership over your life.

I undertake regular supervision of my work in line with BACP guidelines. I carry professional liability insurance and I hold a current DBS clearance.

Feel free to email or call me to arrange an initial session which will give you the opportunity to talk about what has prompted you to seek counselling and to decide whether counselling is something you would like to pursue.  Sessions are 50 minutes once a week, at a regular time agreed between us.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
