About me

Counselling with me will be a safe place for you to explore how you are feeling right now, gain clarity about what has brought you to this point and decide what you’d like to do differently moving forwards.

From the outset during our assessment and throughout our work together the focus will be on your unique needs and the outcome you would like to achieve. My aim will be to put you at ease so you feel about to talk freely and enjoy a positive, rewarding counselling experience. Everything is welcome in our sessions and we will balance the difficult conversations with lighter moments. I will support you to create the mindset and conditions that will make you flourish.

However long we work together, we will make sure we check in on a regular basis with your goals. This allows us to review our progress, check that the goal(s) is still correct or whether it needs updating and also discuss how we are working together and if there is anything you would like to change. I have found that lasting results usually come from making holistic changes. This means we will explore different aspects of your life, not just focus on how you think and feel.

It takes courage to reach out for counselling, so it's important you have all the information you need about what to expect. If you have any questions or you would like to make a time for an initial assessment, please do get in touch on 07341 162825 or via hello@karentoms.com.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
