About me

My aim in counselling is to help you find your own way of responding more effectively to the circumstances or experiences that brought you here. I offer a safe, confidential space where you will be heard without judgement.

I understand that taking the step to have counselling usually is not an easy one. Perhaps you have a specific issue you would like to talk about, or maybe you're finding things tough right now and are not sure why. I offer a place to explore aspects of your life that might be causing you emotional distress or pain, and to make sense of thoughts or feelings that are confusing or overwhelming.

While counselling offers opportunities for positive change, it also can raise difficult issues. My approach is based on the belief that you have within yourself the resources and capacity to survive, grow and change. Sometimes you may lose sight of this if difficult circumstances or life changes lead you to feel vulnerable, hopeless, powerless or unable to cope.

Building a trusting, accepting therapeutic relationship is central to how I work. Together we will explore what you would like to gain from therapy and our work will be guided by the things that feel uppermost to you. Some people need, most of all, to talk over difficult life events so that they can accept a situation or make a change. Others may want to explore their way of being in the world, develop skills for coping and enjoying life more in the present, build personal resilience, or plan a new direction in life.

During your therapy, we can talk about how counselling is going for you so that you can tell me what's helping, what's not helping, and what you might need next.

If you feel ready to take the next step, the best way to contact me is by email or phone. I aim to respond within 48 hours (unless I am away). I offer a free 20 minute triage call (online or telephone) to help you decide if I am the therapist for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist in 2015 and since then have gained experience working in charities and private practice.

I have worked for Sheffield Mind, including providing counselling for clients aged 50+ with complex needs as part of Age Better in Sheffield, and for Eva Therapy Service, a specialist trauma therapy service for women and girls who have experienced domestic or/and sexual abuse.

I am an Accredited Registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

I have a Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and a degree in Psychology.

Further information

I believe that you get the most from counselling by attending weekly. This gives continuity and helps us to build a trusting relationship. At the beginning of counselling, I prefer to contract for a minimum of six sessions. I understand that things come up which can make attending sessions on an ongoing basis difficult. If this is a concern for you, we can talk about this in our sessions.

Sessions can be face-to-face or online via Teams.

Endings are important and, when possible, I prefer to work towards a planned ending. Clients are, of course, free to end counselling whenever they wish.
