About me

Hello my name is Julia and if you are reading this, I guess you must be considering counselling and trying to find the right counsellor for you.

You may be feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, perhaps a little disconnected from others. The reasons behind these feelings might be obvious to you; a recent loss, relationship difficulties, work related stress, a big life event or a change in circumstances.

Or perhaps the reasons behind your feelings seem like a mystery and despite trying to convince yourself that all is well, those thoughts and feelings are all too real and continue to trouble you.

Counselling will offer you a safe, confidential space where together we can explore your difficult thoughts and feelings in a supportive and non-judgmental way. We will work at your pace with what you feel comfortable sharing. This might be unresolved feelings from the past, conflicts in the present or worries about the future.

You will always get to decide what you share and I will use my professional skills to support you in gaining a deeper understanding of yourself, a greater awareness of your choices and working towards personal growth and the possibility of change.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience:

My experience includes helping individuals with difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, family conflicts, confusion over sexual identity, work related stress, trauma, self-harm, grief and loss.

I have worked in an agency setting, a secondary school and more recently in private practice. I also have years of experience working in a large sales organisation where I was a passionate advocate of education around positive mental health in the workplace.

As a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists I abide by the professional standards set out in the BACP Ethical Framework for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I can provide both short-term and long-term counselling, in person from my counselling room in Streetly, Sutton Coldfield.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I understand that not everyone knows what they want from therapy or how to choose a therapist to suit their needs. For this reason I offer a free 20 minute consultation during which we will have a conversation so that you can see how it feels to talk with me and from there you can make an informed decision as to whether you would like to begin working together.
