About me
About me
- Human Givens Practitioner (www.hgi.org.uk)
- Accredited counsellor, psychotherapist and life-coach
- Meditation trainer
- Published author
- Secondary school teacher
I am an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist/life-coach, published author and meditation trainer with more than ten years’ experience as a secondary school teacher. I work as a group facilitator in education and corporate environments (mainly in private practice). I am passionate about helping people to help themselves, and the way ‘Human Givens’ counselling and coaching can make a real difference to people’s lives from the very first session.
My approach
My approach to therapy is very practical. It’s about giving you a simple, fundamental understanding of how the brain and mind – your ‘body system’ – work, so you can better understand and self-manage your own reactions. I offer brief solution-focused therapy, delivered in as few sessions as possible. Rather than looking at negatives, I build on what is positive. Together, we evaluate your skills, achievements and resources, to discover happy and lasting, long-term changes.
I do particularly enjoy helping parents - and single parents - with all the worry, stress and tension our modern world creates. From my experience, as well as therapy, the addition of effective parenting techniques, mindfulness or other de-stress practices can be very effective in coping better with pressures, such as: family, relationships, lifestyle or a demanding job.
In the words of a client:
‘Before I came to see you I thought the nightmares about the assault would never end. I was very nervous to do the deep intervention you suggested. But now, I cannot even get the horrible images to come up anymore. I cannot go there. It’s gone. I feel like a huge weight is lifted off my shoulders. I can look at myself again in the mirror without feeling ashamed and worthless.’
My client came off anti-depressants soon after. She grew stronger, got back into exercise and set new goals. Through our work together, and her new-found determination and confidence, she successfully passed the job interview she applied for and is now running her own department.
I would love to hear from you
If you are also ready, let me help you let go. Leave behind trauma, depression, anxiety, overwhelming anger and lack of confidence. These problems, which may be holding you back, are painful and often linked to past or childhood events. I use safe and non-invasive techniques to release unhelpful emotions and thinking patterns so you can move on, set new goals and lead the life you really want to. I would love to hear from you!

Comments from a parenting group participant:
"It has been so helpful to have the opportunity to reflect on my own parenting styles and try out new techniques…These small changes have made a massive difference to our family dynamics - because of the way I now react in a much calmer manner to challenging situations. "
