About me

I am a couple and individual psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults of all ages and backgrounds, primarily within the framework of psychodynamic therapy. I have a particular interest in working with intercultural couples, as my own multicultural background lends to a distinct cultural sensitivity in this area and enables me to work in an empathic and respectful way with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. I offer therapy in English and can support an inter-lingual format for Armenian, Greek, and Italian speakers to bridge cultural and language hurdles thereby creating an environment where emotions can be expressed more accurately. Often the emotions around past circumstances seem more accessible when thinking in one’s native tongue.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy can foster a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you by exploring the root causes of some of your difficulties which might be linked to events in the past. Relationship difficulties can be the cause of much distress and unhappiness. Past experiences can have their imprint in the present and can trigger old and repetitive patterns of behaviour which can leave one feeling stuck and in pain.

By providing a safe and non-judgmental space, our sessions will enable us to look together at some of your difficulties with kindness and compassion, helping you find clarity and a positive way forward. The process of therapy can be enriching and can support you in living a more contented and fulfilled life.

Couple Therapy

Pursuing therapy as a couple can offer the opportunity to explore hurt and angry feelings in a safe and supportive setting. The insights offered in couple therapy can help to highlight unhelpful, destructive patterns of behaviour and create new, more fulfilling ways of relating. Talking confidentially in a non-judgemental space, in a collaborative way, can foster a greater sense of personal authority and well-being. Partners in a relationship can begin to feel more empathy towards each other and build a reflective understanding of what they each bring into the relationship.

Individual Relationship Therapy

The focus of the therapy will be on the issues which impact intimate adult relationships. Whether you choose to attend therapy with your partner or alone, seeking individual relationship therapy can pave the way to finding a deeper understanding of yourself and of your relationship. Sometimes individual relationship therapy can be helpful in overcoming a breakup, commitment issues or anxieties surrounding your relationship.

Training, qualifications & experience

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

First steps

I can be reached by mobile phone, email or by filling in the form in the Contact me section in my website, to which I will respond within the next working day. We will then engage in a brief (10-15 minute) conversation. If it feels appropriate, we will schedule an initial face-to-face or online consultation where we will discuss things in depth and consider together if therapy seems to be the right way forward.

Initial consultation

The decision to start therapy is an important commitment. This initial consultation will give you a flavour of what it would be like working together and it might sometimes be felt that an extended consultation is needed before we decide whether to commit to ongoing therapeutic work. The fee for this initial consultation is £80 for individuals and £120 for couples and is payable in advance. Ongoing fees are invoiced at the end of each calendar month.

Therapy sessions

Ongoing sessions are 50 minutes long and the ongoing fee will be agreed upon during the first consultation. The sessions will usually take place at the same day and time every week. This regularity and consistency in the session times is an important aspect of the therapy process and for building a positive therapeutic experience. Sessions can be either short term (pre-agreed number of sessions) or open-ended.
