About me

You may be feeling overwhelmed with life's challenges, unable to cope with something or stuck and unable to move forwards. You may be experiencing difficulties in your relationships, either with others around you or with yourself. Reaching out for help and support when your life feels challenging can be a huge step and you may be concerned about what the process of therapy involves. I believe that a trusting relationship between the therapist and the client is fundamental to bringing about positive change and that finding the right therapist is a key part of the healing process.

I can offer you a safe, non-judgemental, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings and difficulties. Therapy is a space for you to talk through what is difficult for you now and together we will try to understand what is going on for you. I will try to see the world through your eyes and I will help you to make sense of your difficulties and better understand yourself. I will help you to gain insight into your experiences and behaviours, find ways of coping and make the changes you wish to have in your life.

I work in an integrative way which means I combine different therapeutic techniques to best suit your individual needs. I believe that every client is different, with unique life experiences. I therefore offer a therapeutic approach which is bespoke to you and one which we will envisage together. Depending on what could be helpful, I might suggest a relational, humanistic, psychodynamic or cognitive behavioural approach.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). In addition to private practice, I have delivered bereavement counselling in hospice care and volunteered within a charity.

I previously had a career as a pharmacist in NHS Primary and Secondary Care and this developed my interest in mental health and the role of talking therapy as an effective treatment option. I retrained at Leeds Beckett University, gaining a distinction in my postgraduate studies.

I can offer therapy for those seeking help with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family issues, feelings of aloneness, bereavement and loss, shame and acceptance, physical health and illness, fear of death and the search for meaning.

Central to my approach is that I accept you for who you are and I believe that everyone should be able to access the help and support they need. I offer compassion, warmth and respect to all my clients and I enjoy working with clients of all ages and backgrounds.

It will no doubt take courage to pick up the phone or send me an email, but taking that first step is the start of your journey to getting the help and support you need. If you feel that talking to me may help, I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation. This will give you the opportunity to talk to me, ask questions and decide if I am the right therapist for you.

I currently offer face to face, online or telephone support depending on your preference.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
