About me

I am an experienced relationship counsellor specialising in working with couples. I aim to help those I work with, both couples and individuals, understand and work towards more satisfying relationships.

This is not an easy process and sometimes if we are feeling low due to anxiety, depression or just the things life throws at us it can be increasingly difficult to know where to turn or what to do next. The fact you are reading this means you are already starting to think about how to make some changes in your life. Ideally we all deserve the opportunity to be 'heard' regardless of our age, gender, culture, race or sexual orientation. Many issues we face in our lives can be linked directly, or sometimes even indirectly, to our relationships. These can be relationships from our past, our present, (sometimes we have fears about making new relationships) and they may be with family, friends, partners or work colleagues.

My aim is to provide a safe, respectful, non judgemental and confidential environment for you to explore,  and gain insight into and make sense of the very thing that impacts on all of us at some time in our lives, our relationships with others.

I would describe myself as an integrative practitioner, using primarily psychodynamic, systemic and person-centred approaches. I am able though to draw on many different theories and techniques in order to find an agreed approach to exploring the issues you bring.

I have over 25 years experience in delivering all aspects of relationship counselling. I am also a clinical supervisor and trainer, having trained many other counsellors to work with couples.

I believe in working collaboratively, which means we will draw on our collective skills and experience to find a solution that best fits you and your situation. Together we will assess the options available in order to navigate our way through the complexity of thoughts, feelings and emotions that go into any one human relationship.

Training, qualifications & experience

My formal qualifications include:

I am able to offer a comfortable, private consulting room in a quiet, yet accessible rural location minutes from the A5.  I am within easy travelling distance from Chester, Cheshire, Shrewsbury, the Wirral, North Wales and North Shropshire.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Please contact me via email or my mobile number. I am always happy to answer your questions about therapy in general, about the service I offer and to discuss availability. Please be aware, I'm not always able to respond immediately but I will reply as soon as possible.

If you contact me I will offer you an initial session to explore what you are looking for in terms of support/help, and then together we can assess how the service I offer might help and then if we both feel we can work together, we can plan a way forward for the therapy.

People often ask how long counselling takes, sadly there is no easy answer to that question! However once we have met and decided to work together, we will review our working relationship at regular intervals to allow the space to check how things are going and to make sure it is still the right thing for you.

Anyone interested in Clinical Supervision, either individual or group; or any training requirements, please contact me for further information.

My supervision training was based on a multi-modal approach, although that said I am almost certainly informed primarily by the two main theoretical approaches I have studied; psychodynamic and systemic.
