About me
I am a registered psychodynamic psychotherapist and mental health nurse. I have more than 30 years experience in the NHS and the private sector working with children and adults with a range of mental health problems. I work in a trauma-informed way recognising that any trauma experienced can have an impact on the way we form and maintain relationships, with ourselves and others. I am also a Licensed Menopause Champion with the Menopause Experts Group
I am passionate about working with women who are feeling frazzled, lost and bewildered as a result of menopause. Feeling as if you don't know who you are anymore and how you got to where you are now or as if you woke up in someone else's life. Children are leaving home or you have teenagers, especially girls who have their own hormone challenges. You feel like you're slowing down but you're mind is racing, you feel numb but also full of emotion. Anxiety, fatigue and depression as well as low self esteem and low confidence. You'd love to feel like you again and find some balance, calm and happiness with who you are.
I have also more recently trained as a life coach and to teach mindfulness as well as a menstrual health practitioner course. I am training in two different holistic therapies currently. This means I can work in a bespoke way with clients so what we do together fits for you.
If you're reading this and you are thinking that first paragraph sounds just like me I'd love to hear from you. I believe that in any therapy or coaching the relationship you have is important. We need to feel comfortable with each other for you to get the best from the work we can do. I can offer an initial session to find out how we can work together.
Training, qualifications & experience
I initially trained as a mental health nurse and qualified in 1990. I worked on various wards from older adults and acute mental health wards. The last ward was an acute ward for women where I developed a passion for working with women.
I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Studies in 2008 which included modules in psychotherapy and CBT from Leeds Metropolitan University
2014- D58L Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy during which the supervised work I did focused on the impact of emotional abuse, trauma and identity issues as a result of being a member of an immigrant family.
In 2015 I completed a course in Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy with the Anna Freud Centre and Tavistock Clinic. DIT is a 16 session psychodynamic psychotherapy focusing on attachments and relationships with yourself and others.
2017 - I qualified in Intercultural Psychotherapy (D59L) - The Tavistock and Portman Centre. During which time I worked with clients who had been sexually abused, emotionally and physically abused as well as with loss, self-worth, depression and anxiety.
I am currently working 2 1/2 days a week in an NHS service as a DIT therapist working with clients who have depression that they can see is linked to their relationship with friends, family, partners and themselves. I also recognise a lot of the people I see have anxiety as well.
More recently I became a Licensed Menopause Champion with the Menopause Experts Group having completed their accredited training
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.
BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
