About me

I am BACP registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a post graduate diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I am an integrative therapist working under the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.  Offering face to face appointments from my therapy room in central Tavistock in Devon, I can also offer online appointments throughout the UK.

People sometimes think counselling is only for those who have experienced severe trauma. It’s not. My clients don’t always even know the cause of their discomfort. They just know that something isn’t quite right.

I’m a firm believer that everyone can benefit from counselling. My clients come to me for a variety of reasons. Some want counselling to recover from childhood trauma, domestic abuse or physical violence. Others feel isolated, alone and unheard. Perhaps you’ve experienced bullying, low self-esteem or suicidal thoughts. Many of my clients don’t really know what’s wrong. They just feel burdened, unhappy or ‘stuck’. Whatever your reason for seeking counselling, please know that you’re not alone.

My main role is to listen. I offer a safe space, free from judgement, where you can talk freely. Everything we discuss will be kept confidential. As a trained therapist, I’ll act as your guide, gently steering you through your counselling journey.

Together, we’ll get to the root cause of what’s holding you back.

I’m an integrative therapist, which means I welcome a wide range of clients. I actively engage with my clients and draw from a range of therapeutic practises, using those which are best suited to each individual and the particular problem they’re facing. Below are just a few of the reasons you might come to me for counselling:

  • You have anxiety, depression or OCD
  • You’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community and have experienced discrimination and internalised shame
  • You have a long-term health condition, such as MS or HIV and are working through what that means to you
  • You feel unheard or misunderstood
  • You’re a survivor of childhood abuse or domestic violence
  • You’re being brought down by grief
  • You’re tackling addictions
  • You feel like you keep making the same mistakes in relationships or at work

I truly believe that everyone can benefit from therapy, no matter their background or experiences.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’ve had a varied career. Having worked in the charity sector for 12 years, I saw first-hand the difference that counselling can make. This led me to retrain as a psychotherapist.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I worked to both their ethical framework and professional guidelines.

I hold a post graduate diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Staffordshire University.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

LGBTQ+ counselling

LGBTQ+ people can face discrimination and rejection, even from those closest to them. I work with sexual and gender diverse clients to help them overcome the trauma they’ve experienced. You may feel misunderstood and unheard. I’m here to listen.

Health counselling

It’s difficult to come to terms with a lifechanging health condition. The challenge is even greater when there’s stigma around that condition, as is the case with HIV, addiction-related illnesses and so on.  You may feel angry, let down and isolated. And you may blame yourself or those around you. I help people to learn to live with their health condition and to deal with the trauma that may surround it.
