About me

Hello and welcome, I’m James, a Bournemouth and Salisbury based counsellor who provides therapy for adults (18+).

I work with people to help them manage difficulties in their life relating to themselves or their relationships. With compassion and curiosity I will provide you with the time and space to be heard and understood, to share things that you can’t share with friends or family. Maybe things that you’ve never shared with anyone else.

With my warm, calm and non-judgemental nature I will create a space where you can speak safely and confidentially about your issues. Together we can explore and work towards awareness, understanding and clarity around the difficulties you are facing and what you can do when things feel overwhelming.

How I Work:

As a humanistic therapist I believe in the importance of healthy connection with ourselves and others as a way to achieve satisfaction and meaning in our lives. Exploring ourselves and our relationships can enable us to build a stronger sense of self that helps us to experience life more fully.

I aim to help people feel whole by supporting them to integrate the emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual aspects of themselves. By working together in the present I can help you to develop self-awareness and an understanding of how your experiences have shaped you. Before this can happen you must feel safe and comfortable enough to share your thoughts and feelings with me. Trust is such an important element of any counselling relationship, which is why I want to make you feel accepted and understood.

I believe the body is a great tool to escape the confusion of the mind and, by learning to pay attention to sensations and the responses, in your body, to different situations and people, we can start to understand what we want and need to enable us to make helpful choices for ourselves.

Please feel free to contact me using the link above if you have any questions or would like to arrange a free 20 minute introductory call to discuss working together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
