About me

Welcome and I hope you find the following information on how I work helpful.

Relationships can be our biggest source of happiness and satisfaction, but they can also be the greatest source of challenge and hurt.

You long for a more meaningful, connected and satisfying relationship, but you keep experiencing the same old stumbling blocks. These repetitions might be because you are still using survival strategies that you needed in childhood – but these strategies are no longer helpful in adulthood.

I help people who feel unheard, unappreciated and misunderstood in their relationships and life. I help people who feel burned out from trying to fix, help and please others. You are hoping to gain a sense of validation or self-worth, but are instead left feeling overwhelmed, anxious and resentful. You can’t imagine how your life or relationship could change or improve. If you were to leave, who would take care of your partner – would they survive without you? And would you survive without them?

But it is possible to change: to go from feeling overwhelmed to becoming more aware and to know what to do. You can learn that supporting someone doesn’t mean fixing or rescuing them, which can take away the other person’s opportunity to take responsibility for themselves. It is possible to take a step back and let others handle their own issues, leaving you to focus on yourself. In other words, you don’t need to keep ‘people pleasing’ – and your relationship doesn’t need to be ‘co-dependent’.

You can do this by learning how to set healthy boundaries and assert yourself. It’s ok to put your own needs first – you matter and are important too! It is possible to reframe the way you see things and to learn how express what you want in a clear manner. This is the road to self-respect, and you will gain respect from others too.

Every journey starts with small steps, and each step will take you closer to self-empowerment and more satisfaction with yourself and your relationships.

As a psychotherapist, I have a special interest in relationships, with a particular focus on topics such as people-pleasing, setting boundaries, assertiveness, co-dependency and healing the inner child.

My background is Eastern European – I have a particular understanding of this culture and speak Latvian.

To find out how therapy could support you, contact me to book a free initial 20-minute consultation. You can ask me questions and we can explore together how we might work together. There will be no obligation to start therapy – we can simply use the time to help you work out what you want and need.

You might also like to consider attending one of my workshops, either by attending online or by buying a workshop video to view in your own time. My workshops offer simple yet powerful tools for setting boundaries and learning how to assert yourself; I will also show you how to deal with feelings of discomfort and unreceptive people. Handout materials are provided. For more information, click here- soon to follow.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Initially, I offer 20 min free, non-obligatory call and it is a chance for you to elaborate on what you share in your enquiry form, ask me questions and for both of us explore whether we feel like a good fit to work together. There is no obligation to enter therapy with me; you are welcome to use this as an opportunity to work out what you want and need.

If we choose to work together, we will organize an initial consultation session which acts as an extension of the call, where I’ll inquire more about you, your background and your hopes and expectations – both for therapy and for life – we will be exploring in more detail the areas of life where you would like to see change.

If we both feel happy to progress after the initial session, we will then agree weekly time to meet and go from there. I’ll then send you some paperwork for both of us to sign before we begin to proceed further.
