About me

Hi, my name is Ian and I'm an Integrative Psychotherapist currently offering online counselling on weekday afternoons, evenings and weekends.

Our need to be heard and understood is a normal part of what it means to be human.

To grow from our struggles: understanding ourselves, the past and our relationships, are all integral parts of the process of healing in therapy.

Uncomfortable emotions such as Anxiety, Depression and fear can often have us looking either forward or backwards in time.

Rooted in empathy, we look to uncover the reasons behind certain beliefs, responses and emotional blocks that no longer serve you.

It's common for patterns to emerge in present behaviour that link to the past. Bringing new awareness to these previously unconscious parts of you can give you more freedom to choose differently. These methods are particularly useful for Attachment, Family and Relationship issues.

By reconnecting with the body and creating space to feel our full range of thoughts and emotions is where I believe real change is born. Being present in both our mind and body allows us for better thought management, coping mechanisms and habits to be forged.

The findings and research into neuroscience and neuroplasticity show that we can change habitual ways of thinking and reprogram our brains. Simultaneously feeling our full range of emotions is the glue that binds it all together. This scientific evidence demonstrates that we don't have to stay stuck, we do have choice and our bodies don't have to be on constant alert. I think knowing that gives us all hope.

EXPERIENCE

My background is Chronic and Complex trauma-based. This subject is multifaceted by nature and and has allowed me the privilege to deepen my understanding of many different related areas including such topics as: BPD, Interpersonal relationships, sleep problems, addiction, obsessive-compulsive disorder, low self-esteem and body dysmorphia to name a few.

MINDFULNESS

I've been involved in Mindfulness practice for almost two decades and it remains a cornerstone of my own peace and Counselling methodology.

Utilising breathing techniques to calm the nervous system and mind is invaluable to the transformation process.

Through my own reflective practice, I aim to make this way of being less of an abstract idea and more of a real-life applicable skill.

CURRENT FOCUS

I have a particular interest in the effects Generational Trauma has had on the Millenial/Gen Z populations and the issues they face in the modern world.

Additionally, Men's Issues such as Fatherhood, modern-day expectations and Anger are topics that I am passionate about.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
