About me

QUALIFIED PSYCHOTHERAPIST & COUNSELLOR, WORKING WITH ADULTS AND CHILDREN

Hello, my name is Helena Prentice (Dip.Psych.Couns.MBACP). I am a qualified Psychotherapist and Counsellor, helping adults and children with a range of mental health issues. I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). I am insured and ICO registered, and I also hold an up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate.

STARTING THERAPY

I thoroughly understand that making the decision to start therapy can be a scary and overwhelming one. Therapy is an extremely personal experience which can evoke many different feelings. However, through my experience, I have personally witnessed the profound transformation that can take place in both adults and children. Whatever your situation or issue, therapy aims to make a positive and significant change to your life and wellbeing. I can offer you a confidential, safe, non-judgemental space, so that you can explore your difficulties and take the first steps towards a brighter outlook for the future.

CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

Most children will experience emotional difficulties at some point during their development and with care and support they can usually be helped through these difficult times.

However, sometimes children need additional help, particularly if they have experienced significant life changing events or trauma. I offer a warm and friendly service for children and adolescents to help them process and communicate their experiences and emotions.

I can work with a range of difficulties through play and creativity, using toys, sand trays, arts/crafts, music, stories and creative visualisations, helping children with problems such as anxiety, anger, school related problems, loss, bereavement, abuse, low self-esteem, oppositional behaviour, difficulties related to trauma and abuse.

Reflecting a child’s process, emotions and play themes can help them feel validated and understood. Confidence can then grow, and the child can begin to make choices and problem-solve.

For more information, please do not hesitate to contact me or visit my website at: www.enlightenedmindstherapy.com

LOCATION

My office is within Salomons Estate, situated two miles from the centre of Tunbridge Wells and three miles from the centre of Tonbridge.

The Estate is a stunning Victorian mansion set within thirty-six acres of rolling gardens, parkland and woods and is a beautiful place to explore and relax before or after counselling sessions. There is also free onsite parking available.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have experience working with a range of mental health issues of varying severities. Prior to running my private practice, Enlightened Minds Therapy, I worked within an NHS setting providing therapy to adults and children between 5 and 18 years of age. I have worked within a Cancer Care Support Centre, providing therapy to the bereaved, those going through treatment and the terminally ill and I have also provided voluntary support within a Residential Rehabilitation facility, helping adults who are recovering from substance abuse.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy, and I have completed five years foundational training to attain the following qualifications with the CPCAB (Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body):

- Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling  – Working with Children & Young   People

- Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Humanistic Route)

I have also completed further professional development and training in the following areas:

- (CBT) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- (MBCBT) Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Children & Young People Mental Health & Wellness
- Play Therapy
- Attachment In Psychotherapy

Although I work integratively, my roots are in Humanistic, Person Centred theory, which means I am able to draw from a range of therapeutic modalities. This enables me to tailor the therapy to individual needs. I tend to incorporate concepts based on Psychodynamic and Gestalt principles, together with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy), Mindfulness and Play & Creative Therapy.

If you think you or your child would benefit from my services, please get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
