About me

There will be times where you may have experiences of anxiety, depression or loneliness. You may feel confused or stuck. Are you going through a life transition, experiencing a loss or bereavement?. Life challenges can lead to feeling like you have lost your sense of direction. You are not alone.

Having awareness that you need support and reaching out is the first step.  Right from the start I will show you respect, listen and be mindful and compassionate in my approach. It can be supportive to speak to someone neutral. The time will be yours to share what is going on for you currently. How we get on in counselling relationship can be key to how easily you find to talk to me. The focus of the work is led by you and at your pace. I am calm and patient in my approach. My role will be to support you to build your awareness, hold space for you to build your confidence and to make decisions for yourself moving forward.

I have trained in an integrative way. This means I do not have one approach. Each person is unique and I keep an open mind to what you may want to bring to counselling and meet you where you are. We agree on how we work together and what your focus is. Together we can look at your past and how it may be affecting your present, we can be with the now and also look to the future. This will be your choice. Part of the work may include exploring your thoughts, feelings, values and beliefs. This will support you to gain insight and help navigate challenging life situations and transitions. You can gain new perspectives and it can open up possibilities for your personal growth. This can have "a ripple effect" on other areas of your life and your relationships. I bear in mind your whole self and the mind, body link, each affecting the other. Mindfulness can support this. I have training to be able to weave this into our work if you would like.

My previous work life has been in healthcare as a nurse and midwife. I have felt privileged to be part of people's life experience. Then my own life changing experience led me to become a counsellor. To be able to give you time and space to be seen and heard is important to me. Supporting your emotional needs whilst paying attention to you as a whole can bring balance.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
