About me

"You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending"- C.S. Lewis

Clients I work with:

Adolescents (over 12) and adults

Methods of Counselling and CBT available:

CBT&Counselling: Online and in Person

What it's all about:

You come to this journey as the expert on you. I will walk alongside you: reflecting, exploring, untangling, listening and gently challenging if appropriate, to help give you more insight and a deeper understanding of yourself.

I value the topics that you want to discuss, whatever these may be: no subject is off limits, shameful, or taboo. These are your sessions to use in the way that is most beneficial to you.

My role as a therapist is to listen without judgement and to look at the concerns you have through your eyes. I will help you to make sense of what is troubling you, to reflect with you, to help bring awareness to alternative perspectives or ways of being, to bring distance to thoughts and emotions, or simply just to sit and listen and to hold hope and self compassion for you until you are ready to hold this for yourself.

How I work:

I work both Integratively and also solely with CBT with adults and adolescents (over 12). This means that we have a wide range of theories and tools that can be adapted to the sessions and tailored to you and this can change as we go through the therapy process. I also offer animal assisted therapy with one of my horses, or my dog Weasel. If you are looking for animal assisted therapy please do let me know at the time of booking.

CBT is helpful for Depression and Anxiety Disorders, but can also be really useful for understanding how our thoughts, behaviours, emotions and physical sensations interplay and create cycles and patterns. We can look just at the here and now, or at how the past has shaped us and fed into the patterns and cycles.

With Counselling I work online, face to face and out in nature. I work in a creative way, or by talking. We can adapt the sessions to fit what works for you. Counselling is a reflective space where we can examine either past experiences or present.

With either CBT or Counselling no topic or issue is off limits- please get in touch to discuss further

My Experience:

I have worked both with adolescents in Education, Youth Offending and Community settings and also with adults in the Community, IAPT and NHS Crisis Line. I began my journey as a therapist in 2012 when I converted my Criminology degree to Psychology and subsequently gained an MSc in Psychology of Education. I then went on to study my Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling and, most recently in 2019, a Post Graduate (level 7) Diploma in Psychological Therapies (CBT).

What I offer:

I am currently offering online sessions and face to face in the RH7 area until August 2024

After this time sessions will be offered face to face, animal assisted, walk and talk or online in the PL20 area

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Whilst I work with a number of issues and across the anxiety disorder spectrum, my special interest is working with OCD. This can be both thoughts (often called 'Pure O') or compulsions (mental and behavioural).

Often OCD is misinterpreted as 'flicking a light switch' or 'washing our hands', but there is so much more to it than this. OCD is a debilitating disorder that can consume our minds and behaviours.

Commonly OCD is thoughts and fears especially around harm coming to ourselves and others. This can take the shape of imagining scenarios or fearing that you will imagine scenarios, followed by:

-neutralising the negative or fearful thought

- taking part in a thought or behaviour to help make sure the negative thought does not come true

- becoming preoccupied with the anxiety provoking thought

- avoiding situations or 'triggers' that may lead to the anxiety provoking thought

- checking behaviours or seeking reassurance from others

- excessive planning/preparation

I work in a way to help you understand and make sense of the OCD, before we begin to change behaviours and challenge thoughts, enabling you to live a life that is no longer ruled by obsessions or compulsions
