About me

What can I help you with?

I can help with many different concerns, including but not limited to, loss, bereavement, anxiety, depression, relationships, low self-esteem. You might feel stuck or can't quite put your finger on what is bothering you.  I can support you through challenging times and help you to work through your thoughts and feelings, and to develop self-awareness and resilience.  Whatever your reasons for seeking out therapy we can work together towards your chosen goals in my private, comfortable therapy rooms, online or on the phone.

Whether you want to talk through difficult experiences or make changes in your life, therapy offers a supportive place for exploration and personal development.

My Practice

My work uses different therapeutic theories and techniques.  These include Person Centred Therapy (PCT),  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA) as well as Mindfulness.  This means I can adapt my practice to your particular needs.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I work according to their ethical framework to ensure my practice is safe and effective.

What to expect

The first few steps can be intimidating so I try to make this a relaxed, straightforward process.

Please get in contact and we can have a free, 20 minute phone call about what you are looking for and my style of working.  I will ask you for some information about yourself, to establish how we can work together, and you can ask me questions about the counselling process.

For example, during our initial phone call, we may talk about the following

 ·      the type of therapy I practice
·       how long counselling may last and what the sessions will be like
·       what you want to get out of counselling
·       my confidentiality and privacy policy
·       your physical and mental health and your home life
·       the kind of records I keep
·       the working agreement I ask you to sign
·       what to do if you have to cancel a session or you miss a session
·       any concerns or worries you have about counselling

If you decide to go ahead with counselling, here is what you can expect:
·      each session lasts 50 minutes
·      we will meet weekly, in an appropriate, private space
·      we will talk about how many sessions you want
·      we will regularly review our sessions and our work together

What we might talk about in therapy sessions varies. For example, we may go through specific exercises, or we might have a discussion about how you're feeling. I could ask you about:
·      your current and past relationships
·      your childhood and past experiences
·      situations or events you find difficult
·      how you think, feel and behave
·      issues that have come up in previous sessions

Please remember that you don't have to talk about anything that you're not ready to talk about, or do anything you don't want to do.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
