About me

Sometimes, you might have a lot of anxiety, loneliness, sadness or anger, and you don’t know why or what to do about it. Maybe relationships are difficult. You might feel numb or lacking in confidence or motivation. Your emotions are valid and trying to tell you something.

I'm a BACP-registered psychotherapist, and I make use of counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT) and Attachment Theory to help you if you are experiencing any kind of distress, low mood or impaired functioning. I may be able to help you to reduce symptoms, improve coping methods, and address the root causes.

I have been through my share of confusing feelings. Sometimes, it felt like I was pushing myself through life with the brakes on and alarm-bells ringing. I felt like I wasn’t doing as well as other people and that life should be easier. I didn’t know what the real problem was.

Whatever you are going through, you are not broken or hopeless. Change can take a lot of time and work, but with care and curiosity, we can explore what’s hurting and find a road to healing.

Understanding what’s going on is half the battle. Then we can look at what needs to change.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am trained in an integrative approach informed by the principles and techniques of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT) and person-centred therapy. I learned my craft at The Centre of Therapy & Counselling Studies in Glasgow, Scotland and I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

In practice, I tend to use a lot of counselling, CBT, CFT and Attachment Theory. I don't believe any one theory is 'the Truth'; I see them more as filters or practical tools that can help get a handle on situations, validated by my experience and the clinical research. My practice motto is 'clarity and compassion': I use my curiosity to help get clarity about what's going on, and while compassion might not be sufficient in itself to solve all problems, I think that if you understand what's going on (clarity) and you can feel compassion for yourself (and so feel motivated to get your needs met without shame), that's a large part of what psychotherapy has to offer. Sometimes, at that stage, it's then about structuring and coaching experiences that will break down change into manageable, tolerable steps.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
