About me

Struggling with an aspect of your life can feel isolating. I am here so that you need not feel alone. Revealing your inner most thoughts, fears and feelings can be daunting and that is why I offer a calm, secure and non-judgemental space.

As a Person Centred Therapist, I am led by you; I work at the pace you set, use challenge where appropriate and hold your personal growth and well-being at the heart of my practise.  I work on the belief that you have the answers within yourself, I am here to help you uncover them.

I believe that in a held environment you will be able to explore and move through your current difficulties.  I know that this is possible as I have overcome issues that felt insurmountable by exploring them with a counsellor who was 'the right fit' for me.  I am what is known in the counselling community as a 'wounded healer.'

You have already shown great courage and a desire to change your current circumstances by reading my profile; if you feel that I could be the 'right fit' for you then please get in touch via the email link above or give me a call on 07443406660.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I am a Registered Member of the BACP working towards Accreditation
  • I hold a Foundation Degree in Science in Counselling Theory and Practise (Level 5)
  • I am studying Therapeutic Counselling BSc (Level 6)
  • I have completed the Foundation for Infant Loss accredited training
  • I am currently engaging in a CPD certificate course to be an ADHD informed practitioner
  • I have completed integrative sex and couples CPD training with Dr Tammy Nelson

I have experience working with:

  • Sexual trauma
  • Miscarriage, pregnancy loss and the death of a child
  • Adverse childhood experiences
  • Substance misuse and addiction (having volunteered for a substance misuse charity)
  • Anxiety
  • Low mood, depression and suicidal ideation
  • Life stage challenges (such as caring for parents)

I continue to learn and develop as a counsellor through my client work.  If a client comes to me with an issue that I have little knowledge of I firstly (and most importantly), learn from them and secondly engage in CPD to find out more.

As a fully qualified counsellor I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and abide by their code of ethics.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I use a dedicated therapeutic space, set up with you, the client in mind.  The room is light, spacious, warm and calm.

The room is upstairs so please let me know if you would like us to use a ground floor space for our work together.

I have felt moved to offer 30 minute telephone sessions as I have noticed that people can experience a sense of overwhelm on longer calls.  Shorter in person or video sessions can be discussed.

I love to embrace the seasons and find that being aware of our natural surroundings can have a grounding effect. I am happy to take our work together outdoors.

I take a very non-directive approach to my work, helping you safely explore the issues that you choose to bring to our sessions together.  I will not make your decisions for you but I will help you to see what choices are in front of you.  Realising that you do have a choice can be incredibly empowering.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

Please let me know if you require ground floor access and I will arrange this for our work together.
