About me

I am an accredited Clinical Psychologist by the HCPC with over 8 years of experience working across the NHS and charity sector, providing emotional and psychological support to individuals, young people and families struggling with a range of difficulties (including low mood, stress, anxiety, trauma, and low self-esteem). I have specialist training and experience in supporting people to recover from their experiences of trauma and working with minoritised and marginalised individuals.

My approach

I aim to provide a non-judgmental space in which we can safely explore and process difficult thoughts, emotions, memories and contextual factors that are causing you suffering and getting in the way of you living a life in line with your values. As well as developing a better understanding of your difficulties, therapy can help you to develop different ways of managing difficult life situations. I hope to meet you where you are at, support you to reconnect with your strengths and tailor an intervention to promote your well-being. We will work together on finding ways to feel more empowered and fulfilled in your life, make changes, develop stronger emotional resilience and psychological flexibility.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I draw on various therapeutic approaches and work integratively to tailor the therapy intervention to suit your needs and goals. These include, but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Trauma-focused Therapy (including EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, among others.

My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed and grounded in social justice principles. This means I work within trauma-informed protocols and that I recognise how societal and systemic inequalities affect mental health. I hope to create anti-oppressive spaces that are safe for people of racially minoritised,  gender and sexually diverse, neurodiverse and different-ability backgrounds.

Process around starting therapy

I offer a free initial telephone call during which we can discuss any questions you may have. If we decide we would like to work together, we would proceed to 1-2 assessment sessions to gain a more in-depth understanding about what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to achieve. Following this, we can agree on a plan and our regular session times.

Client testimonials:

M.- "Working with Dr Khan was the best psychological therapy I have received since my cancer diagnosis. She introduced me to many tools that I still use and I believe will be able to use a lifelong."

E. - "I felt very comfortable talking to Dr Khan. Dr Khan created a safe space that allowed me to say exactly what I was thinking or feeling. I feel very privileged to have had an outlet to speak so freely and in total confidence that I would be listened to without judgement. I felt supported at all times. Dr Khan knew me, understood me and was, without fail, the intervention, confidence boost or listening ear that I needed each week.I don’t know where I would be without Dr Khan. I feel as though I understand myself, my feelings and my actions so much more clearly for the time I spent seeing Dr Khan. I really can’t stress how great an impact she has had on my life. Dr Khan helped me to understand why I was struggling, and she gave me the tools to help myself. There is not a day that goes by in which I don’t draw on one of the tools or theories she taught me. I really am so grateful for Dr Khan’s help. Finally, whilst I’m sure it depends on the individual, I really benefited from the EMDR therapy I did with Dr Khan. I found this was one of the more impactful techniques that Dr Khan and I explored, and she ensured that I felt safe and comfortable at all times. "

J. - "I will be forever grateful to Dr Khan. She was so kind, compassionate and considerate in every session we had together, and truly helped me achieve a state of peace, self-content and empathy that I didn’t think was possible. She always checked in with me and made sure we spent enough time on particular issues or concerns, and I always knew that there was nothing too big or small to tell her. She always made me feel heard and accepted, which meant I could attend every session with no fear of judgement and could be as open and honest as I needed to be. I feel incredibly lucky to have had her as my therapist."
