MBACP, Person-Centred Counsellor & Psychotherapist

About me

A Space for the Part of You That’s Still Carrying Too Much.

You might feel emotionally cut off - from yourself, from other people, or from what used to matter. Maybe life looks fine on the outside, but something underneath feels flat, fragile, or quietly overwhelmed.

I’m Esther, a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist. I work with adults who are coping on the surface, but underneath feel burnt out, disconnected, or unsure who they are anymore.

You might be experiencing:

  • High-functioning burnout, where you’re still performing but emotionally flattened
  • Chronic stress that shows up as irritability, tension, or exhaustion you can’t shake
  • Anxiety that’s hard to switch off, even when things are going well
  • Emotional numbness, or feeling shut off from your own responses
  • Loss of identity or meaning, especially after years of adapting to others
  • That quiet sense something’s missing, even when life looks fine

Therapy with me isn’t clinical or rigid. There’s no expectation to be insightful or polished. Just show up as you are. That’s enough. The work often begins in the stuckness, in the not-knowing.

I’m based in Southampton (Shirley) and offer private therapy in person and online across the UK. Sessions are 50 minutes weekly, short or long-term.

I offer a free 30-minute consultation so you can get a feel for how I work and whether it feels like a good fit.

What Therapy at The Farley Feels Like

This isn’t therapy with worksheets or a formula. It’s not about being told what to do. It’s a conversation - honest, grounded, and shaped around you.

I offer a space where you don’t have to perform, fix yourself, or find the right words. You don’t have to explain or perform here. You can arrive just as you are - unsure, emotional, silent, messy. It’s all welcome.

Common Things We Explore

  • Emotional disconnection or numbness
  • Burnout and long-term overwhelm
  • High-functioning anxiety or low mood
  • Loss of identity, direction, or meaning
  • Repeating patterns in relationships or behaviour
  • The quiet sense that something’s missing - even if everything looks fine

If something in you recognises this, trust that. You don’t need to explain it all to reach out. You just need somewhere to begin.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
