About me
Choosing to start counselling / therapy is an empowering decision. Whether you’re grappling with a specific past or present challenge, feeling anxious or down, making pivotal life choices, or simply seeking a space to understand yourself better and gain practical tools for daily life, get in touch to see how I can support you.
I truly believe that as hard as it can be, talking about what you are facing can take the power out of some of the feelings and thoughts that can make you feel stuck or isolated. Sometimes it is easier to talk to someone impartial and non-judgemental, who is outside of your family or friends for this support. I wish to encourage you to take this step and as your counsellor I will be alongside you as you do so.
My name is Emma Dillon (she/her), and I am a BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist with over 12 years of experience. My career began in physical wellbeing and mindfulness teaching, and I have since transitioned to providing 1:1 therapy to enhance mental and physical health.
In addition to my therapeutic work, I have collaborated with various charities on community wellbeing and mental health projects, many of which I continue to be involved with.
The therapeutic relationship we build is central to our work together, and my approach is tailored to your unique needs. Our sessions may integrate trauma-informed practices, mindfulness-based techniques, creative strategies, and cognitive tools, all designed to support you in finding solutions and conclusions that resonate with who you are.
My extensive training and experience equip me to help you navigate challenges with self-compassion and confidence.
I offer both short-term (6 weeks) and long-term therapy, depending on what suits you best. Sessions are 1 hour long and can be scheduled weekly or fortnightly. Whether you are new to counselling or have previous experience, your questions are welcome, and we will collaborate closely throughout the process.
As a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), I adhere to their ethical standards, ensuring confidentiality and professionalism.
You can contact me via text, email, phone, or the contact form on this website. I offer a free brief phone call (approximately 15 minutes) to discuss your reasons for seeking counselling and how we might work together.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have experience in helping clients navigate a wide range of life's challenges, including identity and sexuality, transition, divorce and separation, bereavement and loss, relationship dynamics, parenting and step-parenting, blended families, caregiving, addiction, family stress, workplace challenges, non-monogamy, life transitions, bullying and abuse, financial struggles, confidence and self-esteem issues, feelings of emptiness, health diagnoses, depression, anxiety, health anxiety, dysphoria and body image, and achieving a healthy work/life balance.
In addition to specific issues and challenges, I see therapy sessions as a collaborative space in which to organise your thoughts, work through transitional times, gain perspective, talk through concerns without judgement, foster self compassion and self trust, understand yourself better, make sense of the past and its impact, be challenged to grow, focus on future decisions and direction.
My practice is neurodiversity-affirming and I have experience of working with clients in this area. I’m passionate about offering an inclusive, supportive therapeutic space for LGBTQIA+ community. I’m dedicated to fostering a space that is affirming and informed about gender, sexual, and relationship diversity.
If your concern isn’t mentioned above or if you have any questions on how we might work together, please reach out—I’m here to explore how I can assist you.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
