About me

Hi, I am Emma. I am a humanistic & integrative psychotherapist and I work with adults and young people.

You may be experiencing relationship or family difficulties, loss, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, or loneliness. Work issues such as bullying, stress or pressures to perform may feel overwhelming. Or you may simply feel disconnected in a way that is hard to describe. Whatever your reason for seeing a counsellor I aim to provide you with a non-judgemental, open, honest, empathetic, and supportive space to fully explore your situation and to help you to understand your thoughts and feelings so that, together, we can work through any difficulties you are experiencing.

I believe that successful counselling is reliant on the relationship that we are able to create and feeling safe and secure within our relationship is imperative. I offer an initial half an hour session free of charge so that we can meet one another and discuss what has brought you to counselling, and how I can support you during this time, giving you the opportunity to decide if I am the right therapist to move forwards with.

If I cannot offer you the kind of service you require, then I will endeavour to point you in the right direction.

My private practice is based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, where I offer both long and short-term counselling and psychotherapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I trained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Nottingham. I hold a range of work experience with clients of different age groups and presenting issues. This includes but is not limited to, bereavement, loss, anxiety, depression, unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, relationship concerns, domestic, physical and emotional abuse, work-related stress, trauma, and many of the issues and concerns that one might experience in life.

I have experience working for the charity SHE-UK who support clients who have experienced childhood sexual abuse & sexual violence.

Alongside my private practice I work for Casy Counselling, offering support to children and young people both in schools and in the community.

I have 16 years' experience of working in a primary school supporting neurodivergent children, children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and complex sensory and communication needs, as well as their parents.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP) and have an enhanced DBS.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
