I am a UKCP Accredited psychotherapist and have trainings in both counselling and psychotherapy. I have worked in the field for over 25 years.I offer short and long term contracts to individuals and couples, and have worked in the Private, Public and Voluntary Sectors.
In my experience people come for help because their lives feel overwhelming or their relationship to others are painful and out of synch. Many are full of self judgements and despair or there is a deep frustration as one repeats the same counter productive patterns over and over again, feeling stuck and unable to move forward in life. Typically these experiences manifest as anxiety, depression, compulsive relationships with food, alcohol, sex etc.
I am a skilled and sensitive practitioner who can draw from a number of approaches in my work with others. I am particularly interested in working with Trauma and Developmental Trauma ( the issues that arise due to early difficulties in our attachments to parents or caregivers). Equally I am comfortable offering shorter more "issue" focused contracts.
When I see couples, it is the Relationship between the two people in room that is my client. Often couples are trapped in patterns of communication and counterproductive interpersonal dynamics. As we work together they have the opportunity to gain greater awareness of these patterns and to begin to make changes. Sometimes this results in a deepening of intimacy and a greater sense of connectedness or it may mean that people choose to part but in a way that is not about blame and making the other responsible. This is very important in relationships where children are otherwise left with the burden of split loyalties.
I offer a free initial appointment which gives the opportunity to clarify what you want from counselling or therapy and to ask whatever questions you might have about my approach and our working together. This also gives me the information I need to understand if I can be useful to you.
