About me

Asking for help can be a daunting step - in fact it may be the hardest step you take when you consider counselling or therapeutic coaching. If you're looking for answers and thinking about asking for help, you're doing really well - don't stop now!

Everyone is different - finding the right therapist to work with you isn't always easy. As a counsellor and therapeutic coach I offer a free 20 minute Zoom consultation to help you explore what's going on for you, and to see whether I can help. I will listen carefully, empathetically and compassionately to help you evaluate your past, your present, and help you develop a personalised approach to how you want your life to be. I integrate a number of recognised and established therapies to tailor an approach that suits you best, including problem solving techniques such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and TA (Transactional Analysis) to help you understand, cope and move forward with positivity.

Counselling offers an opportunity to explore and understand yourself and your environment better. What's happened in the past and what's happening for you right now? What do you want? What matters to you? How do you cope? (or not?) How do you build your autonomy and authenticity? What are your challenges? Who are the important people in your life and how do you communicate with them effectively?

Therapeutic coaching is more goal focused and forward looking. What do you want to do differently? What steps do you need to take for things to change? What support do you need and how do you put those steps into action? Therapeutic coaching can help you move on from your past and focus on a specific goal (big or small) that's important to you.

Sometimes you may need a bit of both - and I can help with this too. Both counselling and therapeutic coaching can help with trauma, anxiety and general worry, relationship and communication problems including abuse, low self-confidence, bereavement and many other issues that may be leaving you feeling overwhelmed, unhappy or unfulfilled.

I work from a completely private, cosy and comfortable therapy room on the northern edge of Southampton, or online via Zoom if you prefer.  If you visit me in person there is plenty of free parking. Please contact me to arrange a free 20 minute initial Zoom consultation.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

My therapy room is in a hilly area - there is a small slope and a couple of small steps up which would be challenging for a wheelchair user, I'm sorry.
