About me
I am a person centred psychotherapist and counsellor who draws upon a range of therapeutic perspectives in order to support individual needs. I like to work together collaboratively in a way that allows empowerment and feels right for you. It is through the therapeutic relationship that new understanding, greater awareness, and therapeutic growth is experienced.
Coming to counselling can initially be a little daunting. I can help you feel welcome in a safe space where I offer empathy, acceptance and validation. We can take things one step at a time, which will allow you to feel valued and heard.
In addition to offering therapy in my practice, I also work as a primary school counsellor. I have had previous experience working in social care and for many years worked as a primary school teacher. I am a parent to 2 adult children, who have given me insight and empathy into their challenging journey through childhood, adolescence and into adulthood.
I am a fully qualified psychotherapist and counsellor, with over with 8 years of experience in working with children, young people and adults. I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP).
I currently work with Adults, Young Adults, Young People and Children (10+). I have had experience working with a wide range of issues including anxiety, ADHD, self-harm, bereavement, loss, trauma, self-esteem, attachment, gender issues and bullying.
I provide 1 to 1 therapy in person and walk and talk therapy outside in nature. I also provide online therapy by zoom. Working online can offer greater accessibility if you are busy or are limited physically. It can provide a more private and comfortable experience as therapy in person may feel too much. My practice is LGBTQ+ affirmative.
I offer a free 30-minute consultation call.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked with children for over 30 years in a wide range of settings initially as a primary school teacher and for the last 8 years as a counsellor. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling with Children and Adults level 4 and 5. I am currently working as a school counsellor in a local primary school. I also have a private practice in Ilkley.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Counselling sessions are offered in my counselling space or online via Zoom. If you prefer the outdoors we can do a walk and talk session. I also offer talking therapy and play/art therapy. I suggest we try a minimum of 3 weekly sessions to begin with and then we can review how it has gone. Sessions will normally be 50 minutes long. I will offer a welcoming, confidential safe space where you will be listened to without judgement and we can gently explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that suits you.
