About me

I am a qualified therapist with experience of working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds. For me, the key is in ensuring that you feel heard and understood so that in turn, you can discern the right steps forward that you want to make in your own life. Talking through problems is a good thing to do, but sometimes we know that those closest to us aren’t necessarily the easiest or best to hold all that we are thinking and feeling. Therapy can fill that space within a context of safety, trust and empathy.

As an integrative therapist, I don’t focus on any one model or theory to explain our experience of life. Rather, I seek to draw on a breadth of knowledge, experience, learning and skills to best serve your needs as we meet together. I work in a non-prescriptive way that allows the dynamic of our work together to emerge, naturally and organically; not forced or led by a tool-kit, and always with your welfare, personal growth and understanding at the heart.

The core of success in therapy lies in the quality of the relationship between you and your therapist. No one therapist can serve all people. With that in mind, I offer an initial session, without charge, to allow us both to work out whether we think we could work together. It would be a chance for you to share something of the story that brings you to therapy, and also for you to hear a little more of how I work. If it feels good, then I would suggest that we agree to 6-12 further sessions, and then from there decide whether a longer term working relationship might be beneficial to you.

I bring a wealth of life experience to my therapy practice. More than a decade in investment banking provides me with a true and realistic perspective on corporate life. A subsequent decade in theological education and the Church has given me a unique insight into the character of communities, families and personal spirituality, although I do not work as a therapist from a faith-orientated perspective of any kind. For the last twelve years I’ve worked in education. This work with children as a teacher, and also as a parent myself, gives me insight into the dynamics of personal development, conflict, hope and change. Alongside my professional training, my belief is that I can lean into this diverse history in a positive way as we work together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

I received a Post-Graduate Clinical Diploma in Integrative & Psychodynamic Counselling from the Metanoia Institute in London (part of Middlesex University), one of the leading and largest training institutions in the country.

I also hold a BA(Hons) in Economics from Manchester Metropolitan University and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Theology & Pastoral Studies from Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
