About me

I am a psychotherapist offering individual therapy sessions for adults who want a confidential space to talk about whatever difficulties they face.

All sessions are 50 minutes long and usually weekly. We can work long term, short term or for a fixed number of sessions depending on your needs. I work via video or telephone as well as face to face.

I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting. I once had my first therapy session too and remember how difficult it was deciding on a therapist and reaching out to make initial contact with them. I aim to make the process as comfortable as possible so I am happy to answer any questions you have about therapy without any obligations.

I offer an introductory session for £30 via zoom to discuss how I may be able to help you and if you feel that I am a good match for you.

I work in a relational style meaning there is a focus on building a relationship between us so we can explore your difficulties together as openly and honestly as possible. This process typically has elements of self-reflection, gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and why you think, feel and behave the way you do. Armed with this self-knowledge you are better able to change the way you think, feel and behave in response to past experiences and the inevitable challenges and stresses of life. This then helps you in finding healthier coping strategies and building emotional resilience.

Everyone’s therapy journey is unique and my role is to be alongside you, as you progress through it.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained for four years at the Metanoia Institute and have a Postgraduate Diploma in Transactional Analysis Studies from Middlesex University.

I have over eight years of experience working in the charity sector as a psychotherapist seeing a diverse range of clients with a variety of difficulties. I was the founding Director of Male Survivors Berkshire CIC providing therapy for male survivors of trauma and abuse.

Prior to training as a psychotherapist I spent almost three years as a Samaritans Listening Volunteer where I supported callers in emotional distress.

I also work using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders.

I am a member of the BACP and as such adhere to their code of ethics and standards.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

The first few sessions will be slightly different from later on in therapy. We will be getting to know each other and I'll be explaining how I work and the therapy process. You'll be deciding if you feel that I am someone you can trust and open up to about your difficulties and if my style of therapy is a good fit for you. There will be more information gathering at this stage as I learn about your situation and history while you can also ask any questions you may have about starting therapy.

We will also talk about confidentiality and our therapy contract including my privacy policy which is mandatory to have to ensure I am storing your personal data safely.
