About me

I am a fully qualified BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) registered counsellor offering psychological support to adults and young people (16+) working short or long term depending on your specific needs.

It is sometimes hard to ask for counselling so this may be a difficult time for you.

Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low in mood, having difficulty coping or unhappy about something in your life....and that's OK- counselling can provide the space and support required for change.

I offer a warm, calm and confidential space where we can work together to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in an empathic, non-judgemental way- offering a safe space where you can explore your emotions at your own pace.

My clients tell me that I am easy to talk too and that I make them feel calm and safe

I believe that we all have the potential to take charge of our lives and that the therapeutic relationship can work to harness that power. Celebrating the best parts of ourselves can help us to grow or change the parts we are less comfortable with.

I will not judge, I will listen and help support you to make sense of things in order to help you develop a more positive approach to aspects of your life, my aim is to empower you so that you are able to make the right life choices for you.  I do this by making sure your voice is heard and respected to help bring you greater satisfaction and stability.

Why not take advantage of my free 10-15 minute, non obligation telephone consultation giving you the opportunity for you to ask me any questions.

My Experience includes:

I currently combine my private practice with working for the NHS,  where I lead and manage a Primary Care Mental Health Service based in a number of GP surgeries around York.  Myself and my team offer 'first response' assistance to patients requiring mental health care.   I deliver brief therapy interventions as part of an individual needs led plan, including talking therapies such as CBT, SFT and DBT.  I support clients who experienced PTSD, flashbacks, panic attacks, anxiety attacks along with working with clients who struggle to regulate emotions.

I also manage and lead 'Talking Matters' - a student placement service where I facilitate and support students from York College, University of York etc with gaining experience and their hours to enable them to qualify and register with the BACP and other membership bodies.

Past experience includes- working as college counsellor at York College, and as a counsellor at 30 Clarence Street, young people's service (currently York Mind) supporting 16-25 year old's through difficulties from anxiety and depression to sexual abuse and identity issues.

I have experience of working within the higher education setting, currently in the University of York as Specialist Mental Health Mentor I draw from a Solution Focused, Mindfulness and goal approach, assisting students to motivate and prioritise their studies, as a way to reduce stress and mental health issues.

I have experience working for PANDAS (Pre and Post Natal Depression Advice) service, supporting women and their partners/family deal with the effects of pre and postnatal depression.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
