About me

My aim in counselling is to create a welcoming, safe space where you can get to know yourself deeply, where no subject is unwelcome. I encourage you to connect to every aspect of yourself, especially those that often get left behind in our day to day lives; such as dreams, spirituality, or any shameful or rejected parts of yourself.

My counselling work is of an integrated approach, informed by Psychodynamic and Person-Centred theories. Working in a Psychodynamic way is an analytical approach, working to bring the unconscious into consciousness, uncovering unconscious patterns in behaviour and exploring childhood experiences that inform current thoughts and behaviour. Person Centred is an empowering approach and we work in a way where you are the expert on your life. I work with the core conditions of empathy, non-judgement, and unconditional positive regard for my clients. My work encourages congruence in clients – so clients can become their true selves in life; I am authentically myself and I invite you to be yourself and experience acceptance for your whole being in the sessions.

My work is trauma informed, which means that I understand how trauma affects people and work in a way to empower individuals to overcome trauma. Some of my trauma work is psycho-educational where appropriate, bringing in theories and my knowledge on human responses to experiencing trauma.

I currently can only offer weekly sessions, rather than every other week or monthly and my rate is £50 per session. We can decide what would be the most suitable – daytime or evening, short or long-term counselling, either in-person, video call (via MS Teams) or over the telephone.

Training, qualifications & experience

Over the last seven years, I have specialised in working therapeutically (at Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre) with clients who have experienced sexual abuse (as children or as adults, men and women). I have worked extensively with clients individually and in groups who have experienced interpersonal trauma such as rape, sexual or domestic violence or abuse and supported clients to overcome their experience of trauma and regain their personal power and go on to lead fulfilling lives.

I have provided counselling to individuals (through Footsteps Counselling) who have experienced fertility difficulties, traumatic birth, pregnancy loss and miscarriage and helped clients overcome these life challenges.

I have worked with clients who have experienced relationship or family issues, sexual harassment, body dysmorphia, self-harm, self-objectification, eating disorders, sexual problems, low self-esteem or self-worth. I have worked with clients who dissociate, have depression, anxiety, personality disorders such as Borderline Personality Disorder or EUPD, PTSD, ADHD and many other difficulties, diagnosed or not.

I have had feedback from my work that I have a compassionate, caring and reassuring nature, clients have felt ‘held’ and supported to reach their own conclusions on their counselling journey.

I hold a level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and training in Understanding and Working With Sexual Violence (accredited through OCN)

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
