About me

Hi, my name is Cheryl and I look forward to working with you.

Entering the world of therapy can be a rewarding and empowering experience but may initially feel daunting. Many things may lead us to seek help including ongoing struggles, specific difficulties or feeling “stuck”. Therapy has the potential to achieve greater clarity, self-awareness, and acceptance, to help us navigate life’s challenges and enhance mental health.

I believe that creating a strong therapeutic relationship is essential to the success of the work and I aim to simplify and demystify the process. I offer a non-judgemental nurturing space to facilitate exploration and insight. We all have the capacity for healing but may need help at some points in our lives. I acknowledge that our stories and experiences are unique and require different ways of thinking about and tackling issues. I chose to train in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling which brings together a variety of approaches that can be tailored to your needs. This may involve exploring external pressures or looking at the past to gain insight into current thoughts, and relationship dynamics. I offer both long term and short-term therapy. The duration of the work will be determined by your needs and goals, which we will explore together. I offer an initial 15–20-minute conversation to talk through your requirements.

I am a business professional who has retrained as a psychotherapist. I originally worked in the corporate world understanding brands and companies’ cultures, creating strategies for communication and advertising. This work requires strong decision making and creative problem-solving skills. My responsibilities also included the development and coaching of employees to flourish in those organisations. This experience enables me to bring practical solutions, where relevant, to the therapy room.

Along side private practice I worked as a therapist in the charity sector supporting clients with a variety of needs, with specific focus on relationship issues.

I have a special interest in young people and worked for several years mentoring and supporting students (aged 16-18) at a 6th form college.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
