About me

You may have arrived here because someone has suggested counselling to help you with a difficulty you are experiencing. You may be looking on behalf of a loved one. A health professional may have recommended counselling, or perhaps you are feeling lost in your life and wonder if talking therapy might be the answer. Whatever the reason, I will endeavour to help you make the best decision for you and if you choose to enter into counselling with me I will help you to overcome the distress you are currently experiencing. I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, although I use an integrative approach according to each client’s needs. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy based on the connection between one’s thoughts, feelings, behaviour and physical symptoms and is recommended by the NHS for treatment of many mental health problems.

I work with children aged 12 and over, adults and couples. I have provided therapy in the third sector, with employee assistance programmes, private practice and in student counselling; as a result I have treated clients with a wide variety of issues and from a myriad of backgrounds.

Depending on your individual needs and what you want to achieve through therapy I adopt an integrative approach and use techniques drawn not only from CBT but from other specialisms such as Compassion Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

I offer short term therapy (usually around 6 to 12 sessions) for specific issues clients may want to work on, through to longer term therapy (20 plus sessions) for more complex issues or longer term support through difficult times.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills and a BA in Community Education specialising in Youth Work.

Since qualifying in 2018 I have worked in the third sector, employee assistance, student counselling and private practice. As such I have a wide range of experience working with various disorders, stress, depression and anxiety to trauma, issues around self-esteem and much more.  I use evidence-based treatment to work with specific disorders and utilise a more holistic approach for issues around identity and self-discovery.

Prior to qualifying as a therapist, I worked with vulnerable young people and adults in a range of settings and also lived and worked abroad. I have a wide range of life experience, which helps my understanding of the range of backgrounds and experiences my clients bring to the therapy space.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
