About me

Even when you have decided to come for counselling, looking for a counsellor can seem quite daunting, so finding the right person to share your thoughts and feelings with is very important. I offer a caring and calm space for you to feel accepted, without judgement. I will listen to your concerns with the aim of exploring and understanding your individual needs and can adapt my approach to work with your particular difficulties. I am an experienced counsellor having practiced for 16 years, 12 of these have been working in the NHS as a Practice counsellor in GP surgeries. As a result of this I am able to work with a wide range of issues.

As a Relate trained counsellor I also work with couples or individuals who particularly want to address relationship issues.

If you would like to talk about any further queries you may have, please don't hesitate to contact me, either by phone or by email.

What I Offer

Individual Counselling - It can be very helpful to bring whatever is troubling you, either from the past or present, to the safety of a counselling relationship where trust can develop. Perhaps you have been hurt or have lost someone and are finding it hard to cope? Perhaps something traumatic has happened to you or you are trying to come to terms with changes in your life. There are so many reasons why people come to counselling. Together we can work to make sense of what is causing your distress and help you to find a way forward. Many people find they are able to make positive changes in their lives and along with this their self-esteem and confidence grows in the process.

Couple Counselling - Counselling can help if you don't feel as close as you once felt. Relationships may need help after an affair, or after the birth of children. Perhaps you feel you are are having too many arguments. I can provide a safe place to talk through these and many other issues. I can help you to improve communication in your relationship and support you through a difficult stage in your lives.

Sessions

The sessions last 60 minutes. In the initial session we can talk about why you are coming for counselling and gain an understanding of what might be helpful to meet your particular needs. We can then tailor the number of sessions accordingly.

I offer face to face sessions in my counselling room here in Rowlands Gill, a few minutes away from the Metro Centre. I offer online sessions too. I am available Monday to Thursday, 9am to 6.15pm. Sessions are usually at the same time each week but can be fortnightly if that is more convenient.

Each session is private and confidential following the ethical guidelines of my governing body, the BACP.

If you would like to book an initial appointment, or if you would like any further information you can get in touch either by phone or by email - Tel: 07910040197 carolyn.counsellor@aol.com

BACP (Accredited)

Member of British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists

I am trained in Psychodynamic theory with person-centred principles. I practice integratively which means I draw on a number of other traditions in order to meet the needs of my clients. These include TA, attachment theory, systems theory, mindfulness, CBT and creative approaches.

I first qualified as a Relate Therapist and began my work as a relationship and couple counsellor in 2004. I then qualified as a Counsellor in 2006 at York St John University and went on to work in the NHS, with individuals and couples, as a Practice counsellor for 14 years. As a result of this I have had extensive experience of working with a wide range of issues.

To ensure Continuous Professional Development I complete short training programmes and and reading throughout the year, to ensure my work as a therapist develops and is soundly based.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
