About me

Hello, my name is Carla. I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and member of the BACP. I work in an warm and non-judgmental way. I believe my job is not to tell you what to do but to create a safe space for you to feel heard. Drawing on different therapeutic approaches, I aim to support you in gaining a deeper awareness of behaviour patterns and difficult feelings. Therapy is an opportunity to reconnect with your authentic self and to develop a better relationship with yourself and others and my aim is to support you in this journey.

It is crucial that the relationship with your counsellor is one of trust, and that you feel comfortable in working together. That’s why I offer a free 30 minute initial consultation so that I can get an understanding of why you want to start therapy and so that we can assess if we can work together, in order to best support your needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am experienced in working with issues such as; attachment issues, postnatal depression, relationship issues, betrayal and heartbreak, low self-esteem, anger, shame, family issues, estranged/difficult family dynamics, narcissistic abuse, work related difficulties, loss and change, anxiety, body image issues, LGBTQ+ issues, jealousy and trauma bonding.

As well as working in private practice, I also work for the charity “Mind”, in order to provide therapeutic counselling to adults of very diverse backgrounds.

I worked for 2 years as a volunteer counsellor for “Redlands Counselling”, an organisation that offers low-cost counselling for people with financial difficulties in Dorset.

I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy which is the leading professional association for counselling professions in the UK.

I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), the only awarding body in Europe to specialise in counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
