About me

I’m Beth, a person-centred counsellor specialising in long-term illness, end-of-life care and bereavement. I have been practising as a counsellor since 2018 and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

How I can help

I believe that in the same way we have physical first aid kits, we should all have emotional first aid kits too. When we cut our finger, we reach for a plaster. So, what do we reach for when we are experiencing emotional distress?

I understand that people from all walks of life will face adversity at some point and when that point comes, they will need to have an emotional first aid kit to cope. Not everybody has that kit, but I can help you to create and fine-tune it in order to work through whatever you are facing.

I will support and walk alongside you whilst encouraging self-awareness, growth and development to build a more fulfilling life for you and, consequently, those closest to you.

The way I work

I am approachable, empathetic and warm, all qualities imperative to creating a safe and confidential space for you to open up and work through any issues you are facing without judgement.

As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and it is important that we work together to help you find a way to move forward. You will be at the centre of every session.

I understand that no two people’s journeys will be the same and not everyone will work in the same way. I will actively seek out feedback throughout the course of our work together to ensure that you feel you are getting the support that you need.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BSc (Hons) Psychology
  • MSc Counselling Psychology
  • OCN Certificate in Counselling Supervision

For the past 6 years, I have worked at Birmingham Hospice in various roles. I started at the Hospice as a Children’s Counsellor supporting children and young people up to the age of 18 who were either facing a loss or had been bereaved.

Following this, I moved into the role of Senior Counselling Practitioner in the adult counselling service at the Hospice. In this role, I led and developed a service that supported not only clients known to us through our patients but also people in the wider community who had been bereaved.

I currently work as a Clinical Supervisor at Birmingham Hospice supporting a team of multi-disciplinary staff with their wellbeing and professional development. Please see my supervision profile for further information.

I am an experienced trainer and educator on the subjects of managing difficult conversations and supporting individuals who are grieving. In addition to this, I am trained to deliver communication skills workshops for NHS professionals in managing distress.

I strongly believe that we never stop growing and developing as people, so I am committed to continuous professional and personal development.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
