About me

My name is Baiba Jukame-Kalvane and I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). My presence as a therapist can be described as down-to-earth, authentic and guided by genuine curiosity about the human experience. I am currently working via online video only and have the capacity to take on new clients. Please enquire about specific availability.

It is not unusual to reach a point of feeling unhappy, stuck in old patterns or confused. Whatever might be the reason you wish to seek counselling or psychotherapy, seeking support and reaching out can be hard, yet incredibly rewarding. I believe that the therapeutic relationship between a client and a therapist is of great importance. I offer a supportive, non-judgemental, safe and fully confidential space in which we can explore your experience in the world and the issues that may be troubling you.

My work is informed by psychoanalytic, existential and humanistic theory and I have a specific interest in body-mind connection, self-compassion and mindfulness. What this means in practice is that I focus on the needs of each individual in a unique and dynamic way.

We can explore both the present and the past. We can slow down and try to understand more fully what's truly happening in the present moment,  tune into your felt experience and explore if any cognitive thought distortions might be present. We can also explore if your past experiences, such as a stressful home environment, emotional neglect or strict control whilst growing up, rejection, abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), complicated relationships, are unprocessed or still having a powerful effect on your present life. We can also explore the existential givens (freedom, responsibility, death, uncertainty etc.) and the absurdity of life. All of this can be done with gentle curiosity and by putting your needs as a client in the center.

I am passionate about helping you gain greater self-awareness and understanding through which you can live life in a more authentic, comfortable and fulfilling way.

I have several years of experience working therapeutically within the mental health sector, with a background in social care and youth work.

Alongside private practice, I used to work as a counsellor at an LGBTQ+ mental health charity and at King’s College London.

"Baiba is very good at listening and asking back relevant questions. She really
shakes your own assumptions and makes you realize there are other ways to see
your own reality. My experience was very positive and I certainly would work with
her again in the future." - previous client feedback

"Baiba, from the very first instance, made me feel so safe to explore all that was coming to the surface. Having come across her website, I felt intuitively that she was the perfect therapist to work with me in these discoveries, and she was that, and more. On reflection, It’s surprising to me at how much ‘work’ we did in 5 months and how much I was able to notice patterns and begin to surrender to them, allowing myself (potentially for the first time) the right to feel the ‘bad’ stuff - like jealousy and shame. I learnt that through compassion, we can give these feelings space to exist and space to let go. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Baiba, It’s been monumental." - previous client feedback

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
