About me

Some of us are fortunate to have reliable and supportive friends and family, but occasionally there are things we feel we cannot share with those around us, or we don't feel truly heard.

Counselling is a form of self-care and you do not have to be in crisis to find yourself seeking support. Actually, a lot of counselling is about empowerment and self-development.

Perhaps you are seeking a counsellor with a specific goal in mind, a difficult challenge in life you are facing, or something just hasn't been feeling quite 'right' for a while. Whether your goal is to become empowered in your situation, to grow and develop or to have a sanctuary in which to heal from loss, I provide a warm and relaxed environment and will help you explore and navigate what is going on for you at your pace.

My Specialisms:

While I specialise in anxiety, bereavement and pregnancy-related loss, I also regularly work with other challenges which you can find below. With so many counsellors to choose from, it can be hard to know who or what you need right now. I warmly welcome you to my website to read more about me and the way that I work.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an Integrative Counsellor which means that I do not believe one perspective or approach can ever wholly encapsulate or define your unique experience and outlook on the world. This is why I am trained to draw upon or 'integrate' schools of thought on the human condition and explore material from different angles to best support you:

  • I work primarily in a person-centred way, providing a warm, empathic space to help you reconnect with your own inner values and resources
  • I draw upon Attachment Theory, providing insight into your relational patterns and how you have learned to regulate stress
  • I apply psychodynamic perspectives to help you better understand and identify behavioural patterns and ways of thinking
  • I work existentially with grief and loss, meaning, personal responsibility and ownership
  • I employ some CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) tools and exercises to gently challenge negative thought processes that are impacting your happiness and wellbeing

Ultimately, my role is to understand you and how you are personally experiencing your circumstances, free of judgement and in a confidential space.

Experience:

In addition to my private practice, I counsel in the hospice sector, working with the bereaved, those living with a life-limiting diagnosis or those caring for a loved one. I am also an accredited counsellor of The Foundation for Infant Loss Training, a national award-winning organisation dedicated to raising awareness in public and medical fields of infant loss and bereavement. In this capacity I give my time to a pregnancy crisis support charity with an 18 year history, supporting individuals and families with pregnancy-related challenges and perinatal mental health.

Training:

  • BACP Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

I regularly undertake further training and attend conferences on up-to-date research in fields such as neuroscience, trauma and loss.

Certificates:

  • Infant Loss and Bereavement
  • Treating Generalised Anxiety and Panic Disorders
  • Trauma and Attachment
  • The Military Human: Understanding Military Culture and Transition

I attend regular clinical supervision, hold professional liability insurance and am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), abiding by their ethical code of conduct.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

There is no obligation to take up counselling after a call or initial consultation, what is most important is you find the right support for you.Payment is made in advance of your session via bank transfer.
